Chapter 9 - The Garden of Healing

Six months later.

Spring had arrived in full bloom. The garden behind Adrian and Ellie’s sunlit home was a vibrant paradise of blooming white roses, lavender, and yellow daffodils.

A large wooden deck extended into the yard, built entirely by Adrian’s own hands during his weekends off work. He had taken a new position as a senior safety inspector for a sustainable green-energy construction firm—a job that kept him local, allowing him to be home every evening by five o'clock.

On the deck, a large dining table was set with fresh linens, bowls of fresh fruit, grilled chicken, and homemade lemonade.

Sitting around the table were David Martinez, Clara Martinez, and Marcus Vance.

Clara looked completely transformed. She had gained back her healthy weight, her dark hair fell in soft, glossy waves around her shoulders, and her eyes were bright, filled with laughter as she played peek-a-boo with six-month-old baby Hope, who sat in a high chair kicking her chubby legs.

"Look at her, Adrian," Clara laughed, letting baby Hope grab her pinky finger. "She has your eyes, but definitely Ellie’s sweet smile."

"Thank God for that," Adrian joked, pouring glasses of iced lemonade for everyone. "If she had my smile, she’d look like a grumpy contractor."

Everyone around the table laughed warmly.

Ellie walked out onto the deck, wearing a bright yellow sundress, carrying a warm platter of freshly baked blueberry muffins. She looked radiant, completely healed, surrounded by the deep peace of a safe, loving home.

"Dinner is served!" Ellie announced, placing the platter in the center of the table.

David raised his glass of lemonade. "Before we eat, I want to make a toast."

Everyone picked up their glasses.

David looked across the table at Adrian, Ellie, and tiny baby Hope. "To real family. Not the one defined by blood or toxicity, but the family we choose through love, courage, and truth. To Adrian and Ellie—for showing us that light will always conquer the darkest places."

"To family!" everyone cheered, clinking their glasses together under the bright spring sun.
