Chapter 8 - The Birth of Hope

Two weeks after the trial ended, a gentle autumn rain was falling over the city—not the harsh, freezing storm of that terrible Friday night, but a soft, warm drizzle that brought out the vibrant colors of fallen leaves.
In the delivery room at St. Jude’s Women’s Hospital, the air was filled with low, rhythmic breathing, soft encouragement from nurses, and the steady beat of life.
Adrian stood beside the hospital bed, wearing scrubs, holding Ellie’s hand as she pushed through her final contractions.
"You're doing amazing, baby! Just one more push!" Adrian cheered, wiping sweat from her forehead with a damp cloth. "I can see her head! She’s almost here!"
Ellie gathered every remaining ounce of her strength, gripping Adrian’s hands tightly, and let out a long, powerful cry.
At 4:12 PM, the room was filled with the loud, bright, healthy cry of a newborn baby.
"It’s a girl!" Dr. Thorne announced joyfully, lifting the newborn child and placing her directly onto Ellie’s bare chest. "A perfect, healthy seven-pound baby girl!"
Adrian collapsed onto his knees beside the bed, tears streaming freely down his face as he looked at his daughter. She had a thick mop of dark hair, rosy pink cheeks, and dark, curious eyes that opened slowly to look up at her parents.
Ellie sobbed with pure happiness, wrapping her arms around the baby and pulling her close. "We did it, Adrian... she’s here... she’s finally here."
Adrian leaned down, pressing his lips to Ellie’s forehead, then gently kissing his daughter’s tiny, soft fingers.
"What are we going to name her?" Dr. Thorne asked with a smile as the nurses wiped the baby clean.

Ellie looked up at Adrian, her eyes shining with deep love and meaning. "Her name is Hope. Hope Clara Salazar."
"Hope," Adrian repeated softly, his heart swelling with a warmth so immense it wiped away every scar from his past. "It’s perfect."
