Chapter 9 - The Vow Restored

Six months later.

The church of Santa Maria on the cliffs of Lake Como was bathed in the warm, golden light of late afternoon.

Unlike their first wedding four years ago—which had been a grand, hollow corporate event organized by Victoria Rossi with eight hundred fake high-society guests—this gathering was intimate, warm, and filled only with real love.

There were only thirty people in attendance: Hector and his close security team, Dr. Keller, the gallery staff, Carl, and a few true friends who had stood by Julian during the storm.

Soft organ music floated through the ancient stone arches.

Julian stood at the altar wearing a sharp, custom charcoal tuxedo. Beside him stood Hector, serving as his best man.

The heavy wooden doors at the back of the church swung open.

Julian’s heart skipped a beat.

Elena walked down the aisle on the arm of the elderly resort owner who had given her a job when she was at her lowest.

She was breathtaking. She wore an off-the-shoulder, silk crepe gown that hugged her restored, graceful figure, with a delicate lace veil floating behind her.

In her arms, she carried six-month-old baby Leo, dressed in a tiny white suit with a silk bowtie, laughing happily as he looked at the stained-glass windows.

Julian met her halfway down the aisle, unable to wait a second longer. He took his son into his arm, holding his wife's hand with the other, leading them up to the altar together.

The priest smiled, clearing his throat gently.

"Julian Rossi, do you take Elena to be your lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do you part?"

Julian looked deep into Elena’s warm brown eyes—the eyes he had searched for in his dreams for eight agonizing months.

"I took those vows four years ago," Julian said, his voice ringing strong and true through the church. "And I failed to protect them. But today, before God, my friends, and my son, I swear that my life, my wealth, my body, and my soul belong only to you. I will build an empire to shield you, and I will spend every breath ensuring you never know sorrow again."

Tears glistened in Elena’s eyes like diamonds.

"Elena Rossi," the priest turned to her. "Do you take Julian to be your lawfully wedded husband?"

Elena smiled, reaching up to adjust the tiny bowtie on their son’s collar before looking up at her husband.

"I do," Elena whispered softly. "I loved you when I had nothing. I loved you when I was scrubbing floors. And I will love you until the stars go cold."

"By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife," the priest declared. "You may kiss the bride."

Julian didn't hesitate. He pulled Elena into his arms, dipping her slightly as he pressed his lips against hers in a passionate, eternal kiss, while little Leo clapped his tiny hands between them.

The small congregation erupted into joyful applause, their cheers echoing off the ancient stone walls out toward the open sea.
