Chapter 5 - The Safe Haven

By 3:00 AM, a private luxury jet touched down on a secluded airstrip near Lake Como.

Julian had refused to let Elena step foot on public ground. He had carried her directly from the penthouse suite to an armored limousine, and then onto his private aircraft.

Inside the plane, Elena lay rested on a plush velvet sofa, wrapped in warm blankets, while a private obstetrician Julian had flown in from Zurich conducted a thorough ultra-sound examination.

Julian sat beside her, holding her hand, his eyes glued to the black-and-white monitor screen resting on the table.

"Is the baby... is he alright?" Elena asked, her voice tight with anxiety. "I didn't have proper prenatal vitamins for the first three months... I was working twelve hours a day..."

The physician, Dr. Keller, smiled gently, pointing his finger at a strong, rhythmic pulsing shape on the screen.

Thump-thump. Thump-thump. Thump-thump.

The sound of their baby's heartbeat filled the quiet cabin of the plane.

"The baby is remarkably strong, Mrs. Rossi," Dr. Keller reassured her warm-heartedly. "It’s a boy. A bit small due to the stress and lack of proper nutrition, but his organ development is perfect. With proper rest, high-protein nutrition, and specialized care, he will be completely healthy."

A heavy, sobbing breath of relief escaped Elena’s lips. She covered her mouth, fresh tears spilling down her cheeks.

Julian leaned down, pressing his lips against her knuckles, his own eyes brimming with tears.

"A boy..." Julian murmured, his thumb gently stroking her belly. "We're having a son, Elena."

"I wanted to name him after your father," Elena whispered softly. "Leo."

Julian’s heart melted. His father, Leo Rossi, had been the only person in the Rossi family who had treated Elena with genuine kindness before his sudden death four years ago.

"Leo," Julian agreed, his voice thick with devotion. "Leo Rossi. He will inherit everything."

An hour later, the convoy arrived at the Villa Bellissima—Julian’s private estate nestled on the cliffs of Lake Como.

This was not the cold, formal mansion in Milan where Victoria had ruled with an iron fist. Villa Bellissima was Julian’s personal sanctuary, built by his father, surrounded by soaring cypress trees, blue water, and fortified by top-tier security systems that answered only to Julian.

He carried Elena up the stone staircase into the master bedroom—the room where they had spent their happiest moments before the betrayal.

The room had been kept pristine. Not a single item of Elena's had been removed. Her favorite books sat on the nightstand; her silk robes hung in the dressing room. Julian had refused to let the maids touch her belongings for eight long months, clinging to the desperate hope that she would return.

He laid her down on the king-sized bed covered in Egyptian cotton sheets.

"Rest now, my love," Julian whispered, tucking the duvet around her. "You are home."

"Where are you going?" Elena asked, panic instantly rising in her eyes as she reached for his sleeve.

Julian sat on the edge of the mattress, cupping her cheek with his warm palm.

"I am going down to the lower cellars," Julian said, his eyes darkening into pools of obsidian. "It is time to collect the debts."
