Chapter 8 - The Birth of Leo

The private maternity wing of the St. Anna Clinic in Como was ablaze with lights.

Julian had hired the top obstetricians, pediatricians, and nursing staff in the country, locking down the entire floor to ensure absolute privacy and security.

Inside the delivery suite, the atmosphere was intense.

Elena lay on the bed, her face flushed with sweat, her knuckles white as she gripped Julian’s hand with terrifying strength during a massive contraction.

"You're doing incredible, darling," Julian whispered frantically, wiping her brow with a cool, damp cloth. "Inhale... exhale... just like we practiced."

"Julian! It hurts!" Elena cried out, her head tossing back against the white pillows. "It hurts so much!"

"I know, my love, I know," Julian choked out, feeling utterly helpless in the face of her pain. He kissed her wet knuckles, her cheeks, her temple, whispering prayers he hadn't spoken since childhood. "Stay with me, Elena. You are the strongest woman in the world."

Dr. Keller stood at the foot of the bed, giving a firm nod to the head nurse.

"The head is fully engaged, Mrs. Rossi!" Dr. Keller announced calmly. "On the next contraction, I need a strong, steady push!"

The contraction hit like a tidal wave.

Elena let out a guttural scream, squeezing Julian’s hand so hard he heard his own fingers strain. She poured every ounce of her strength, her love, her survival instinct into that final, monumental push.

"That's it! Keep going! Almost there!" Dr. Keller called out.

With one final, breathless effort, Elena collapsed back against the pillows, gasping for air.

A second later, a sharp, loud, healthy cry echoed through the quiet delivery room.

Waaaaah! Waaaaah!

Julian stopped breathing. He looked over at the foot of the bed.

Dr. Keller was holding a tiny, slick, pink baby boy, wrapped in a warm white towel. The baby was crying fiercely, his tiny fists waving wildly in the air.

"A healthy baby boy!" Dr. Keller cheered softly, laying the newborn directly onto Elena’s bare chest. "Seven pounds, six ounces. Perfectly healthy!"

The moment the baby touched his mother’s warm skin, his cries softened into tiny, snuffling hiccups.

Elena looked down at her son, tears streaming down her face like a river. She reached out with a trembling finger, gently touching his soft, dark hair—hair that was an exact copy of his father’s.

"Leo..." Elena sobbed, her heart swelling to the point of breaking. "My sweet, sweet Leo..."

Julian dropped to his knees beside the bed, burying his face in the space between Elena’s neck and the baby’s tiny shoulder. The mighty titan of European real estate, a man who had never shed a tear in front of boardrooms or banks, wept openly, his shoulders shaking with overwhelming joy.

"Thank you..." Julian sobbed into her skin. "Thank you for bringing him to me, Elena..."

Tiny Leo let out a small, soft sigh, his miniature fingers curling around Julian’s little finger, holding on tight.
