Chapter 6 - The Cellar of Reckoning

Deep beneath the limestone foundations of Villa Bellissima lay the estate’s historic wine cellars—a subterranean labyrinth of vaulted brick, heavy iron gates, and temperature-controlled vaults.
Inside a spacious, damp stone room lit by a single overhead bulb, Victoria Rossi and Arthur Vance sat on wooden chairs, guarded by two of Hector’s silent, muscular operatives.
Victoria’s Chanel suit was wrinkled, her perfect hair disheveled, but her face still burned with indignant rage. Arthur Vance looked terrified, sweating profusely through his silk shirt.
The heavy iron door groaned open.
Julian walked in, wearing a simple black turtleneck and dark trousers. Behind him walked Carl, his chief legal counsel, carrying a thick leather briefcase.
"Julian!" Victoria demanded, standing up furiously. "How dare you treat your mother like a common criminal! Unchain Arthur at once! This is kidnapping! It’s illegal!"
Julian didn't answer. He dragged a metal chair across the stone floor, the screeching noise echoing off the walls, and sat down three feet in front of her.
"Illegal?" Julian asked smoothly, crossing his legs. "What is illegal, Victoria, is forging bank signatures, orchestrating a federal loan fraud scheme, and hiring armed mercenaries to kidnap a pregnant woman."
Arthur Vance gasped, clutching his chest. "Julian... listen to me... your mother convinced me—"
"Shut up, Arthur," Julian said without looking at him.
Julian gestured to Carl, who opened his briefcase and laid four thick stacks of documents onto a folding table.
"Over the last six hours," Julian said, his voice dropping into a terrifyingly cold, methodical rhythm, "my forensic team audited the offshore shell companies registered under the Vance Logistics brand. Do you know what we found, Arthur?"
Arthur swallowed hard, unable to speak.
"We found thirty-two million euros siphoned directly from Rossi Shipping over the last three years," Julian continued. "Authorized by Victoria’s legacy power of attorney—a power of attorney my father gave her before he died, which she abused to bleed my father's company dry."
Victoria’s face drained of all color. "Julian... I did it for the family..."
"You did it for yourself," Julian spat, his voice finally cracking with fury. "You did it to cover your gambling debts in Monaco! You used Arthur to launder the money, and when Elena discovered the discrepancies in the gallery accounts eight months ago, you realized she was going to expose you!"
Victoria stood frozen, her eyes darting between her son and the legal documents on the table.
"She didn't tell you, did she?" Julian smiled, a dark, dangerous smirk. "Elena didn't leave because she was scared of your ridiculous psychiatric accusations, Victoria. She left because she had found the paper trail linking you to the black-market art auctions in Geneva. You threatened her life to protect your own skin."
"Julian, please..." Victoria whimpered, her arrogant facade finally crumbling into dust. She dropped to her knees before her son, reaching out to touch his hands. "I am your mother! I brought you into this world! You cannot destroy me for that girl!"
Julian pulled his hands away as if her touch were toxic.
"You brought me into this world," Julian said, looking down at her with pure disgust. "And today, I disown you."
He stood up, looking at Carl.
"File the criminal charges with the Italian Federal Police," Julian ordered. "Freeze every account bearing Victoria Rossi’s name. Seize her villa in Rome, her jewels, her vehicles, and her art collection. Leave her with nothing."
"And Arthur?" Carl asked.
"Arthur Vance will be handed over to the Swiss Financial Crime Authority by noon tomorrow," Julian added cold-bloodedly. "And tell Camila that if she ever sets foot in Italy again, she will be named as a co-conspirator in her father’s fraud trial."
Julian turned on his heel and walked toward the door.
"Julian! No! Julian!" Victoria screamed behind him, her voice echoing hysterically off the damp stone walls. "You can't do this to me! I am a Rossi!"
May you like
Julian stopped at the iron threshold, looking back over his shoulder one last time.
"No, Victoria," Julian said quietly. "Elena is the only Rossi that matters."
