Chapter 7 - The Healing Season

Spring bloomed across Lake Como in a breathtaking explosion of pink jasmine, white lilies, and deep blue water.

Three months had passed since the night at The Grand Alcazar.

The fallout in the business world had been swift and total. The news of Victoria Rossi’s arrest for international financial fraud and grand embezzlement had shocked European high society. Rossi Enterprises had severed all ties with Vance Logistics, absorbing its assets through a legal bankruptcy takeover that doubled Julian’s corporate holdings.

Camila Vance had fled to South America to escape the press, her reputation ruined forever.

But inside the gates of Villa Bellissima, the storm had given way to absolute tranquility.

Elena sat on a comfortable daybed on the sunlit terrace, wrapped in a soft white linen dress. Her hair was glossy, falling in thick waves over her shoulders. Her skin had recovered its healthy, golden glow, and her hollow cheekbones were once again soft and full.

She was eight and a half months pregnant, her rounded belly resting beneath her folded hands.

Julian stepped onto the terrace carrying a tray with fresh pomegranate juice and a bowl of organic strawberries. He was dressed casually in a open-collared white shirt, his phone turned off—a rare sight for a man who used to work eighteen hours a day.

He set the tray down on the wicker table, knelt beside her daybed, and gently placed his face against her stomach.

"He's quiet today," Julian whispered, kissing the thin fabric of her dress.

"He was awake at four in the morning, kicking my ribs," Elena laughed softly, her fingers running through Julian’s dark, thick hair. "He’s just like his father—never rests."

Julian lifted his head, looking at her with an intensity of love that still took her breath away.

"Carl finished the legal restitution papers today," Julian said gently. "The gallery in Milan—the one my mother took away from you—is officially registered in your name now. Renovations are nearly complete. Whenever you feel ready, it’s yours to manage."

Elena’s eyes shone with tears of quiet gratitude. "Julian... you don't have to keep giving me things. Having you back... having our home back... it’s more than enough."

"I spent eight months letting you suffer because I was too blind to see the snakes in my own house," Julian said, his hands gently framing her face. "I will spend the next eighty years making sure you never feel unsafe, unwanted, or unloved again."

Elena leaned down, pressing her lips against his in a sweet, slow kiss that tasted of strawberries and summer sunshine.

"I love you, Julian," she murmured against his mouth.

"I love you, my queen," he whispered back.

Suddenly, Elena’s body went completely stiff. She let out a sharp, gasping breath, her hands gripping Julian’s shoulders tightly.

Julian panicked instantly, standing up. "Elena? What is it? Is it a kick?"

Elena looked down at the white linen dress. A clear puddle of water was spreading across the cushion beneath her.

May you like

She looked up at him, her eyes wide with a mixture of fear and pure excitement.

"Julian..." she whispered, a small, trembling smile breaking across her face. "My water just broke."
