Chapter 9 - The Wedding at the Sound

Six months later.

The cliffside gardens of the DeLuca estate overlooking Long Island Sound were decorated with thousands of white roses, soft silk drapes, and twinkling fairy lights.

The autumn breeze was crisp and clear, carrying the soothing sound of ocean waves crashing against the rocks below.

Over two hundred guests—city leaders, former captains turned legitimate businessmen, community leaders, and charity workers—sat in elegant rows of white chairs.

At the altar stood Lorenzo DeLuca, looking strikingly handsome in a dark charcoal tuxedo. Beside him stood Marcus Bell as his best man, and Anthony Graves.

Music began to play—a soft, beautiful melody performed by a live string quartet.

First came tiny four-year-old Emma, looking like a little princess in a puffy white dress and a silver tiara. She walked down the petal-covered aisle carrying a small satin pillow. On the pillow rested two gold wedding rings—and a pair of small, shiny emerald-handled safety scissors.

The guests chuckled warmly, clapping quietly as Emma took her seat near Dr. Reed in the front row.

Then the music swelled.

Sophia Rossi stepped onto the carpeted aisle, leaning on the arm of Dr. Elias Reed, who had proudly agreed to walk her down the aisle.

Sophia was breathtaking. Her gown was made of delicate lace and flowing white silk, trailing behind her like sea foam. Her dark hair was styled in soft waves, and her smile illuminated the entire garden.

Lorenzo’s breath caught in his throat. He watched her walk toward him, feeling a wave of gratitude so powerful it brought moisture to his eyes.

When Dr. Reed placed Sophia’s hand into Lorenzo’s, the old doctor whispered, "Take care of her, Lorenzo."

"With my life," Lorenzo promised.

The ceremony was brief, simple, and profound.

When the priest asked for the rings, Emma proudly carried the pillow up to the altar.

Lorenzo slid a magnificent diamond band onto Sophia’s finger, his voice steady and full of devotion. "Sophia, I give you my past, my present, and my future. I promise to love you, honor you, and protect you and Emma for all the days of my life."

Sophia slipped a matching gold band onto Lorenzo’s finger, her eyes shining with pure joy. "Lorenzo, you saved my life seven years ago, and you gave me a future when I had no hope. I give you my heart, my devotion, and my endless love."

"By the power vested in me," the priest smiled warmly, "I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride."

Emma jumped up and down, throwing white rose petals into the air. "Yay! Mommy and Mr. Lorenzo got married!"
