Chapter 7 - The New Dawn

The morning sun rose over Long Island Sound, painting the sky in brilliant hues of gold, pink, and orange.
The dark, imposing DeLuca estate had been cleansed. The heavy security gates stood open, letting the gentle sea breeze sweep through the manicured lawns.
A long line of black sedans sat parked along the driveway.
Inside the grand ballroom, thirty senior captains, business managers, and street lieutenants of the DeLuca organization stood in silent attention.
Lorenzo DeLuca walked into the room.
He was dressed in a tailored black suit. He carried no weapons. His posture was upright, his eyes calm and commanding. Beside him walked Marcus Bell and Anthony Graves.
When Lorenzo reached the head of the room, every single captain bowed their heads in profound respect.
"Boss," Sal, the senior captain who had been tricked by Vincent, stepped forward, dropping to one knee. "We were blind. Vincent lied to us. We asked for proof, but he showed us fake documents. We beg for your forgiveness."
Lorenzo looked around the room at the men who had served his family for decades.
"Stand up, Sal," Lorenzo commanded gently.
Sal stood up, looking nervously into Lorenzo’s eyes.
"Vincent is gone," Lorenzo announced to the room, his deep voice echoing off the high ceilings. "He will spend his remaining days in a federal prison. But his betrayal taught me something important."
The room went completely quiet.
"The era of fear and bloodshed is over," Lorenzo declared. "The DeLuca family will no longer deal in street violence or illegal extortion. We are transitioning all assets into legitimate maritime shipping, real estate development, and charitable foundations."
The captains looked at each other in surprise, but no one argued. They had seen Lorenzo’s power; they knew his word was absolute law.
"Anyone who wishes to leave with a full pension may do so today," Lorenzo added. "Anyone who stays will build a legitimate future for our children. What is your choice?"
Sal raised his hand instantly. "We stay with you, Boss! To the end!"
"To the end!" the entire room roared in unison, their voices filled with renewed loyalty and pride.
Lorenzo nodded with satisfaction. "Clear the room. I have private business to attend to."
As the captains filed out, a white delivery van pulled up to the front entrance of the mansion.
The front door opened, and Sophia Rossi stepped out onto the driveway, holding little Emma’s hand.
Emma was wearing her favorite red dress, both shoes on her feet this time, and holding her new emerald-adorned safety scissors proudly. In her other arm, she held Biscuit the calico cat, who was purring contentedly.

Sophia stopped at the base of the marble steps, looking up at the grand house where she had worked as a maid for seven years.
Lorenzo walked down the steps, his eyes fixed entirely on Sophia.
