Chapter 8 - The Fall of the Serpent

"Shut up!" Leo screamed, distracted for a fraction of a second by Rose's defiance.

That fraction of a second was all Jax needed. He lunged forward, throwing his entire weight into Leo. A shot fired, ricocheting harmlessly off the concrete ceiling as both men crashed into the floor.

The pistol flew out of Leo’s hand, skidding across the room. Leo was fast, driven by youthful adrenaline and manic rage, landing a sharp blow to Jax's jaw. But Jax was a survivor of a hundred street wars. He took the hit, grabbed Leo by the collar of his expensive jacket, and threw him against the heavy steel wine rack.

The structure collapsed, burying Leo under dozens of heavy glass bottles. He scrambled to get up, reaching for a sharp piece of broken glass, but Jax's heavy combat boot came down hard on his wrist, pinning him to the floor.

"It's over, kid," Jax said, his voice cold as ice. "Your father's legacy ends tonight."

Grizz and Hawk burst into the room, weapons drawn, accompanied by local state police officers they had managed to contact using encrypted channels once the estate's jammers were taken down.

"Secure him," the lead officer commanded, pointing at Leo, who was now weeping in anger and pain as the handcuffs clicked into place.

Jax didn't care about Leo anymore. He rushed to Rose, using a heavy pair of bolt cutters he grabbed from Hawk’s tactical pack to shatter the chains binding her wrists. The moment she was free, she collapsed into his arms, sobbing uncontrollably.

"I knew you'd come," she whispered into his neck, her fingers digging into his leather vest. "I knew you'd find us."

"I'm sorry it took me eight years, Rose," Jax choked out, burying his face in her hair. "I'm never letting you go again."
