Chapter 9 - The Vows under the Roses

At two o'clock in the afternoon, the wedding march began to play.

Alexander stood at the altar under an archway of white roses, looking striking in a navy three-piece suit. Beside him stood his chief security officer Vance, who was serving as his best man, looking unusually emotional for a former military sergeant.

The crowd stood as the flower girls entered. Iris walked slowly and proudly down the carpeted aisle, dropping rose petals with meticulous care, while Clara trotted beside her, helping her whenever she wobbled. The guests wiped away tears of amazement at the sight of the little girl who had once been pronounced permanently disabled, now walking tall and free.

Then came Grace.

She walked down the aisle on the arm of her younger brother, Leo, who was now fully recovered and thriving thanks to the top-tier medical care Alexander had quietly arranged for him months ago.

When Grace reached the altar, Alexander took her hand. His hands were warm, steady, and trembling slightly with emotion as he looked at his bride.

The officiant spoke words of love, resilience, and union, but when it came time for the vows, Alexander stepped closer to Grace, looking directly into her eyes.

“Grace,” Alexander said, his voice echoing with profound sincerity over the quiet garden. “I used to believe that strength meant building walls high enough that nothing could ever hurt me or my daughters again. I lived in a castle of stone and ice. But you taught me that true strength isn't built with walls—it’s built with love, patience, and vulnerability.”

He slipped a flawless, platinum diamond ring onto her finger.

“I vow to honor you, protect you, and stand beside you as your equal, your partner, and your husband for all the days of my life. You brought my heart back to life, and I give it to you entirely.”

Grace smiled through her happy tears, holding his hands tight.

“Alexander,” Grace responded softly, her voice carrying clearly across the lawn. “When I came into your home, I was just looking for a way to survive. I never expected to find a home, a soulmate, and two beautiful daughters who have filled my life with meaning. You showed me that I was worthy of love, respect, and protection.”

She slipped his gold wedding band onto his finger.

“I vow to walk beside you through every storm and every sunshine, to raise our children with boundless joy, and to love you fiercely forever.”

“By the power vested in me,” the officiant announced with a bright smile, “I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride!”

Alexander gathered Grace into his arms and lifted her slightly off her feet as he kissed her deeply, passionately, under the showering petals of white roses, while the entire garden erupted into thunderous, joyous applause.
