Chapter 9 - The Sterling Legacy

By the spring of the following year, the Sterling Property Group had grown into one of the most respected female-owned real-estate development firms in the state.

We didn't just build luxury apartments; we created a dedicated housing program that provided free, high-quality housing and legal aid to single mothers recovering from domestic and financial abuse.

On a clear, warm evening in May, we celebrated the opening of The Arthur & Eleanor Sterling Community Center—a state-of-the-art facility named in honor of my parents.

The center featured a free legal clinic, a children's library, and an educational space where women could learn property management, bookkeeping, and finance.

Mara Quinn stood beside me on the illuminated terrace, holding a glass of sparkling cider as guests filled the courtyard below.

"It wasn't the envelope, Mara," I replied, looking down at the crowd where Lily was playing tag with three other children near the marble fountain. "It was what my parents taught me before they left: that stone and soil can be taken, but knowledge, love, and courage belong to you forever."
