Chapter 3 - The Cold Truth

That evening, as the storm raged outside, I tucked the children into the plush king-sized beds of the master suite. They were fascinated by the sprawling mansion, but they were remarkably perceptive.

"Mama," Olivia whispered, clutching her stuffed rabbit. "Is that man our biological father?"

"Yes, sweetheart," I said, kissing her forehead. "But blood only makes you related. Love, sacrifice, and being there every single day—that is what makes someone a parent. And you have everything you need."

"We have you," Noah said proudly. "And that's more than enough."

After they fell asleep, I walked down to the estate library to fetch a cup of tea. As I stepped inside, the door clicked shut behind me. Daniel was standing near the fireplace, holding a glass of scotch.

"You built an empire, didn't you?" Daniel said, his voice laced with resentment and awe. "I looked you up on Forbes while you were upstairs. Kesha Vance. Founder and CEO of Vance Logistics. Worth hundreds of millions. Arriving in a private helicopter."

"I built a life, Daniel," I corrected him. "While you were spending your family inheritance partying in Europe and hiding from responsibility, I worked twenty-hour days to ensure my children lacked nothing."

"They are MY children too!" he suddenly snapped, taking an aggressive step forward. "You hid them from me!"

I pulled my phone from my pocket, opened an archived folder, and projected a document onto the smart screen above the fireplace. It was the certified legal letter he had sent me eight years ago.

"I, Daniel Reynolds, hereby denounce any claim, obligation, or biological link to the alleged pregnancy of Kesha Vance, and demand zero contact under penalty of litigation."

"You disowned them before they breathed air, Daniel," I said coldly. "Do not pretend you care now just because they are rich, beautiful, and bear your face."
