Chapter 3 - The Shadow of Truth

The hospital was already buzzing with rumors. A Chief of ER almost dying on the table under the care of her OB-GYN husband was not something even the hospital board could sweep under the rug.

Julian Vance visited me later that afternoon, bringing the actual chart records. "Amelia, I pulled the internal telemetry logs before Cameron could touch them," Julian said quietly, sitting beside my bed. "He didn't just turn off the epidural. He deliberately delayed the C-section order by forty-five minutes after the baby's heart rate plunged into severe bradycardia. He noted in the system that you were 'cooperative and refusing intervention.'"

My hands clenched around the bedsheets. "He falsified my chart."

"He did," Julian confirmed. "And there's more. The nurse on duty, Nurse Clara, signed an affidavit standardizing what happened with Sophie. Sophie intentionally dropped the tray to provoke a reaction, and Cameron used it as leverage."

"Sophie isn't just an ambitious intern, Julian," I murmured, staring out the window at the city skyline. "She’s been targeting my position and my family for six months. Cameron was just stupid enough to fall for her flattering smiles."

"What do you want to do?" Julian asked.

I looked at him, my heart forged in fire. "I want him destroyed. Professionally, legally, and personally. He took away my dignity during the most vulnerable moment of my life. I will take everything he owns."
