Chapter 6 - Exposure and Public Shame

In high-society circles and business networks, reputation is everything. Mark’s marketing agency depended entirely on wealthy clients who valued ethics and prestige. Chloe worked as an influencer manager for high-end beauty brands.
They thought they could keep their legal troubles quiet, but the internet has a way of balancing the scales.
A local investigative journalist for a major New York news outlet got wind of the police report and court filings. The headline aired on the local evening news and quickly went viral across social media:
"PARK SLOPE CRUETLY: BROOKLYN FAMILY ARRESTED IN MIAMI AFTER STARVING NEW MOTHER AND INFANT FOR VACATION FUNDS."
The news report included blurred stills from the security footage showing Eleanor dumping the formula and Chloe taking the food. While names were initially shielded in early press releases, internet sleuths quickly connected the dots based on public arrest records in Miami.
Within twenty-four hours, the backlash was swift and catastrophic:
Chloe’s agency terminated her employment immediately, citing a violation of their core values and public morality clauses.
Mark’s clients pulled their contracts overnight, leaving his business completely insolvent.
Eleanor was formally removed from the board of her local charity committee, her name dragged through the mud among the very socialites she had spent her life trying to impress.

When Eleanor went to her local country club to seek comfort from her old friends, the manager met her at the front gates and politely informed her that her membership had been revoked due to pending felony charges.
They were learning the hard way that when you strip someone else of their humanity, society will strip you of yours.
