Chapter 10 - The Dawn of a New Legacy

Three months later, the sun shone brightly over the newly restored Vance Family Estate across the river. The boarded-up windows were gone, replaced by clean glass reflecting a bright, cloudless sky. The gardens, once choked with weeds, were alive with blooming flowers and the sound of running water from the restored fountains.
In the center of the expansive courtyard, a grand outdoor gathering was taking place. Business leaders, philanthropic partners, and close friends mingled freely, celebrating the rebirth of the Vance Foundation under new, honest leadership.
Richard Vance stood near the terrace, speaking with a group of international delegates, looking happier and more at peace than he had in decades.
A few yards away, near the grand marble steps leading down to the garden, Evelyn Vance stood in a flowing ivory dress. She wasn't holding onto a cane. She wasn't leaning on anyone for support. Her stride was strong, graceful, and completely unbroken.
Beside her stood Toby. He was wearing a well-fitted dark blue blazer and clean shoes, his dusty clothes and street-worn appearance entirely a thing of the past. But his calm, steady eyes remained unchanged.
Evelyn looked down at the boy, a warm, genuine smile gracing her lips. She reached out and took his small hand in hers.
"You know," Evelyn said softly, "you don't have to call me 'Miss Evelyn' anymore. You have a room upstairs. It’s got a real bed, a desk, and a window that looks out over the entire city."
Toby looked up at her, then glanced out toward the horizon where the skyline gleamed in the morning light.
"I know," Toby replied with a faint smile. "But I like the garden. There’s still a lot of things in the world that need help standing up."
May you like
Evelyn chuckled, squeezing his hand gently. "Then we'll do it together."
As the morning breeze rustled the leaves of the old oak trees overhead, Toby turned and walked down the stone steps into the sunlit garden, leaving the shadows of the past far behind, stepping confidently into a future he had fought so hard to reclaim.
