Chapter 10 - The Unbroken Horizon

The summer sun was setting over the Atlantic Ocean, painting the sky in breathtaking strokes of violet, gold, and burning pink.
On the private beach behind the Caruso estate on Long Island, a soft, warm breeze swept across the white sand.
A large wooden deck built over the dunes was decorated with white linen, lanterns glowing softly in the twilight, and a large dining table loaded with fresh fruit, grilled seafood, and sweet pastries.
Nine-year-old Leo and two-year-old Isabella were playing at the water's edge, building a massive sandcastle decorated with seashells. Toby stood nearby, holding a camera, laughing as he took photos of the children chasing seagulls into the surf.
Matteo sat on a wooden bench on the deck, sipping a cold drink, watching the horizon with a calm, watchful eye.
At the edge of the dunes, standing hand in hand, were Enzo and Sarah.
Sarah wore a loose, flowing white beach dress that rustled in the ocean breeze. Her hair fell over her shoulders in soft, dark waves.
Enzo stood behind her, his arms wrapped securely around her waist, his chest pressed against her back, breathing in the sweet scent of lavender and ocean salt from her skin.
"What are you thinking about, my love?" Enzo asked softly, kissing the top of her shoulder—right over the faint, pale scar where the first bullet had struck three years ago.
Sarah rested her hands over his, looking out at the endless expanse of the ocean, watching their children's laughter echo across the water.
"I was thinking about how strange life is," Sarah murmured softly, leaning her head back against his shoulder. "If someone had told me four years ago that taking three bullets would lead me to this... to you, to Leo, to Isabella... I would have told them they were crazy."
Enzo smiled, resting his jaw against her cheek. "It wasn't the bullets that brought you here, Sarah. It was your heart. The universe just needed a way to bring you home to me."
Sarah turned around in his arms, wrapping her hands around his neck, looking into his dark, beautiful eyes—eyes that no longer held coldness or fear, but only the warm, eternal fire of a man who loved his wife with every drop of his soul.
"I am home, Enzo," Sarah whispered.

He leaned down, closing the small distance between them, meeting her lips in a slow, deep, passionate kiss that sealed three years of pain, war, and healing into a single, perfect moment of absolute peace.
Behind them, the ocean waves lapped rhythmically against the shore, the stars began to twinkle in the darkening Texas and New York skies, and the family that was built from blood and sacrifice stood together under the unbroken horizon—safe, whole, and loved forever.
