Chapter 3 - The Boardroom Coup

Downtown Boston was alive with the frantic hum of morning commuters, but inside the executive boardroom of Waverly Global Headquarters on the forty-fifth floor, the atmosphere was suffocating.

Celeste Waverly stood at the head of the polished mahogany table, her tailored Chanel suit immaculate, her blonde hair pulled into a severe French twist. But beneath her flawless exterior, the cracks were showing. Her hands rested flat on the wood, trembling slightly as she stared at the digital tablet displaying the freeze orders hitting her primary accounts.

“Explain this to me again, Mr. Vance,” Celeste commanded, her voice slicing through the terrified silence of the three corporate lawyers cowering across the table.

Marcus Vance—who was secretly feeding information directly to Grant while playing double agent inside the corporate structure—adjusted his tie with calculated reluctance. “Ms. Waverly, the federal banking commission has executed an emergency freeze on all secondary corporate funds tied to Crestwood Holdings. Furthermore, a federal grand jury in Boston has just subpoenaed all internal medical audit logs from Brigham and Women’s Hospital dating back seventeen years.”

Color drained entirely from Celeste’s face. She looked like she had been struck by lightning. “That’s impossible. Those records were expunged two decades ago. The shell companies are firewalled behind three layers of international anonymity!”

“They were firewalled until Grant authorized a forensic override using your personal administrator key,” Marcus lied smoothly, maintaining an expression of grave corporate concern. “He has the wire receipts, Ms. Waverly. He has Beatrice Thorne’s signed confession statement recorded this morning by federal investigators in Florida.”

Celeste’s eyes flared with murderous rage. “That incompetent cow!” she screamed, sweeping a crystal water pitcher off the table. It shattered against the baseboard, sending shards of glass flying across the expensive wool carpet.

The lawyers flinched, pressing themselves back into their leather chairs.

“Where is he?” Celeste hissed, leaning over the table, her fingernails digging into the wood. “Where is my brother?”

“We don't know, ma’am,” Marcus replied steadily. “His vehicle trackers were disabled outside of Providence yesterday evening. His personal phone is pinging from a dead zone on Cape Cod, but local private security units we dispatched to the property found it abandoned.”

Celeste stood up straight, smoothing down her jacket with a chilling display of recovered control. She adjusted her posture, her mind racing a mile a minute to calculate her next move. She had survived corporate espionage, federal investigations, and hostile takeovers by cutting throats and burying bodies metaphorically and literally. She wasn't going to let a dead marriage and a pair of miraculous infants ruin her empire now.

“Call the emergency board of directors meeting,” Celeste ordered, her voice cutting like glass. “Invoke Clause 4 of the corporate charter. Declare Grant mentally incapacitated due to acute emotional trauma and erratic behavior.”

Marcus stared at her, a cold smirk hidden behind his professional mask. “And on what grounds, Ms. Waverly? The board requires medical proof of incapacity.”

“I’ll provide the medical proof,” Celeste smiled, a terrifying, predatory expression that chilled everyone in the room. “If Grant wants to play dirty, we’ll declare him unfit to manage his own estate, take full control of the trust, and have him committed for psychiatric evaluation before sunset. Secure the private jet. We’re going to Cape Cod.”
