Chapter 10 - The Horizon Restored

Three months after the trial concluded, the Cape Cod estate—Liam’s House—was bathed in the golden brilliance of an Atlantic sunrise.

The ocean breeze carried the clean scent of salt and pine through the open French doors of the master suite. Mara sat in a plush armchair by the window, watching as the twin babies, now lively and curious infants, stretched their tiny fingers out toward a mobile spinning above their crib.

Grant walked quietly into the room, holding two cups of steaming coffee. He handed one to Mara, leaning down to press a tender, lingering kiss to the top of her head.

"The board meeting went smoothly," Grant murmured softly, pulling up a chair beside her. "Marcus is running day-to-day operations in Boston, and the foundation has already accepted its first twelve families into the sanctuary program."

Mara turned her green eyes toward him, a soft, radiant smile curving her lips. The shadows of the past seventeen years had finally melted away, replaced by an unshakable peace.

"Do you ever think about what could have been, Grant? If we hadn't lost those seventeen years?" she asked quietly.

Grant reached out, taking her hand and lacing his fingers securely through hers. He looked over at the crib where their healthy, thriving children cooed happily in the morning light, and then back into the eyes of the woman who had endured the unimaginable to keep them safe.

"If we hadn't gone through the darkness, we wouldn't know the true value of the light, Mara," Grant said, his voice steady and full of absolute devotion. "We can't get those seventeen years back. But we have today. And every single tomorrow belongs to us."

Outside, the waves broke rhythmically against the shore, washing the coastline clean, ready for an unwritten, beautiful future.
