Chapter 6 - THE STOLEN CHILD
That afternoon, two officers from Child Protective Services (CPS) arrived at the mansion, accompanied by Marcus Vale. They had an emergency court order to remove Lily from the premises, citing an ongoing investigation into her identity and Daniel's lack of legal custody.
Lily panicked, gripping Daniel's legs. "Don't let them take me! You promised!"
"I won't, Lily," Daniel whispered. He stood in front of the social workers. "Look at her. Look at her eyes. You are acting on a fraudulent report filed by a corrupt attorney."
"We have to follow the law, Mr. Whitmore," the lead CPS officer said gently but firmly. "Until legal paternity is established by a court-appointed lab, she must go into temporary foster care."
Marcus Vale smirked from the background. Daniel knew that if Lily went into the system under Marcus's influence, she might disappear forever.
Just as the officers stepped forward, Sam Vance burst into the room holding a sealed envelope.

"Wait!" Sam shouted. "The DNA results are back from an accredited independent lab. It's a 99.9% match. Furthermore, we have a sworn affidavit from the nurse who was in the delivery room nine years ago. She kept a secret log."
The CPS officers paused, reviewing the documents. Marcus’s smirk vanished.
