Chapter 4 - THE LEGAL AMBUSH

The next morning, the storm had cleared, but a different kind of tempest arrived at Daniel's doorstep. It wasn't the police, but a battalion of lawyers representing Whitmore International, led by Victoria Whitmore—Daniel’s ambitious stepmother.
Victoria walked into the grand foyer, her heels clicking sharply against the marble. She looked at Lily, who was sitting on the stairs holding her one-eared stuffed rabbit, wearing brand-new clothes Mrs. Higgins had rushed to buy.
"So, the rumor is true," Victoria sneered, looking at Daniel. "You brought a street urchin into your home claiming she’s Charles's granddaughter. Have you lost your mind, Daniel?"
"Get out of my house, Victoria," Daniel said coldly.
"It’s not just your house," Victoria replied, tossing a legal document onto the table. "According to a clause your father inserted, if any illegitimate claims to the bloodline arise without a certified DNA test verified by the board's designated medical team, your asset control is frozen. Marcus Vale filed the injunction this morning. You are officially suspended from the company, and your accounts are locked."

Daniel smiled, a dark, humorless expression. "You think I care about the money? Take the company. I have my daughter."
"We'll see how long that sentiment lasts when the child protection services arrive," Victoria whispered maliciously. "Marcus has already filed a report stating you kidnapped a runaway."
