Chapter 9 - The Legacy of Honor

Ten years later.

The sun shone brightly over the grand courtyard of the University of Palermo.

Hundreds of students clad in academic gowns gathered for the annual graduation ceremony of the Faculty of Law and Criminal Justice.

Sitting in the front row of the VIP section was Salvatore Romano.

Now in his late fifties, his silver hair was fully white, but his posture remained as commanding and formidable as ever. Beside him sat Nona Maria, healthy and proud in a beautiful dark silk dress, holding a bouquet of fresh yellow roses.

The Dean of the University stepped up to the podium.

"And now, presenting the highest academic honor of the class of 2036... Valedictorian Sophia Benedetti!"

The crowd erupted into thunderous applause.

Sophia walked up to the podium. At seventeen, she was a striking, brilliant young woman, radiating intelligence, grace, and an unbreakable inner strength. Around her neck, resting over her graduation gown, hung the very same silver pocket watch Salvatore had given her ten years ago on Via Marquez.

She looked out at the vast audience, her eyes locking onto the tall man sitting in the front row.

"When I was seven years old," Sophia spoke into the microphone, her voice confident and captivating, "I walked down a street in this city feeling entirely invisible and terrified. I believed that power belonged only to those who used fear to destroy others."

She smiled warmly at Salvatore.

"But that day, a man taught me a different truth. He taught me that true power is not measured by how many people fear you, but by how many people you are willing to protect. He showed me that honor is a choice we make every single day, even when the world around us falls into darkness."

She raised her diploma high in the air.

"I dedicate this degree to my grandmother, who taught me how to endure... and to my guardian, Don Salvatore Romano, who taught me how to stand tall."

The entire auditorium stood up, breaking into an overwhelming ovation.

Salvatore sat in his chair, his eyes glistening with rare, proud tears as he watched the little girl he had saved become the future champion of justice for the entire city.
