Chapter 7 - The Trap in the Garden

By sunrise, a silent war had begun inside Cross Manor.
Julian did not fire Elena, nor did he announce her true identity to the household. Instead, he played the part of the unsuspecting billionaire CEO, while Elena continued her duties—but now, every move they made was part of a calculated, lethal trap.
Julian called a mandatory family meeting for Friday evening at the estate. He invited his mother, Beatrice, his brother, Richard, and Victoria Sterling, along with Victoria’s father, Lord Arthur Sterling, the chairman of Sterling Pharmaceuticals.
The official pretense? To sign the final paperwork transferring Noah’s medical conservatorship to the family trust and to finalize the wedding arrangements between Julian and Victoria.
On Thursday afternoon, twenty-four hours before the meeting, Victoria arrived at the estate early, feeling triumphant. She walked into the grand library, where she found Elena vacuuming the oriental rug.
Victoria smirked, strolling over in her heels and intentionally stepping on the vacuum power cord, pulling it from the wall outlet.
The machine sputtered and died.
"Oops," Victoria purred, adjusting her diamond necklace. "Oh, I’m sorry, maid. Did I interrupt your pathetic little job?"
Elena didn't look angry. She slowly turned around, stood up straight, and looked Victoria dead in the eye.
"You missed a spot on your conscience, Miss Sterling," Elena said, her voice cool, confident, and devoid of any servant's deference.
Victoria blinked, stunned by the maid's sudden audacity. "What did you say to me?"
"I said," Elena repeated, taking a step toward Victoria, "that three drops of liquid sedative in a seven-year-old child's tea is a federal crime of attempted poisoning. Especially when that child has a history of neuro-trauma."
Victoria’s breath caught in her throat. Her eyes flared with sudden, wild panic. "How... how do you know about that?"
Elena smiled—a sharp, brilliant smile that belonged to a brilliant doctor, not a helpless housemaid. "Because I kept the mug, Victoria. I had the liquid analyzed at an independent lab yesterday morning. Lorazepam. A heavy clinical sedative. Dangerous enough to induce a coma in a child Noah's size."
Victoria took a step back, her hands trembling as she reached for her purse. "You... who the hell are you?"
Elena stepped closer, standing tall, her posture immaculate. "My name is Dr. Elena Vance-Ross. Former Head of Pediatric Neuro-Trauma at Mass General. The doctor you and your father paid five million dollars to try and bribe five years ago."
Victoria let out a strangled gasp, her face turning as white as a sheet. "You! You're back?!"
"I never left," Elena whispered, leaning in close to Victoria’s ear. "And tomorrow night, when your father and Lady Beatrice sign those conservatorship papers... I am going to destroy every single one of you."
Victoria turned on her heel and fled the library in a sheer panic, her high heels skittering wildly across the polished hardwood floors.
In the corner of the library, behind the heavy mahogany bookcase, Julian stepped out from the shadows. He was holding his phone, which had been recording the entire interaction in high-definition video.
"She took the bait," Julian said, a cold, dark smile spreading across his face.

Elena turned to him, her heart pounding. "She’s desperate now. Desperate people make mistakes."
"And tomorrow night," Julian added, walking over to stand beside her, "we close the cage."
