Chapter 6 - The Breach at Bay Ridge

The Moretti compound in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, was a heavily fortified marble mansion surrounded by ten-foot stone walls, iron gates, and high-resolution security cameras.

At 1:55 PM, the quiet, tree-lined suburban street was utterly silent. No cars passed. No pedestrians walked the sidewalks. Vincent’s security detail had subtly closed off the three surrounding blocks, creating an invisible perimeter.

Inside the mansion’s lavish study, seventy-two-year-old Salvatore Moretti sat behind a massive mahogany desk. He looked fifty years older than he had yesterday. His hair was disheveled, his silk tie untied, and his hands trembled as he repeatedly tried to dial numbers on a landline phone that offered nothing but dead silence.

"Where are the mercenaries?!" Salvatore screamed at his remaining lieutenant, a scarred enforcer named Franco. "Why isn't the power coming back on?!"

"Boss... the street transformers were cut," Franco stammered, sweat pouring down his face. "Our cell jammers are down. We can't reach the Philadelphia unit... they’re not answering!"

CRASH.

The heavy double doors of the study didn't explode inward with gunfire. They simply swung open with a slow, deliberate creak.

Vincent Torino walked into the room.

He wore no body armor. He carried no visible weapon. He walked with a relaxed, elegant posture, his hands tucked casually into his coat pockets, stepping over the threshold as if he were visiting a museum.

Behind him, framed in the hallway, lay six of Salvatore's elite mercenaries—unconscious or bound on the marble floor, neutralized silently by Marco’s entry team seconds before.

Franco panicked, raising his submachine gun—

THWIP.

A single suppressed round from Marco, standing in the shadow of the doorway, caught Franco in the shoulder, dropping him to his knees, his weapon clattering away across the floor.

"Out, Franco," Vincent said softly without looking at the fallen guard.

Marco grabbed Franco by his collar and dragged him out of the room, shutting the heavy mahogany doors behind them.

Salvatore was left alone, sitting behind his desk, staring at Vincent with wild, bloodshot eyes.

"You..." Salvatore rasped, his voice trembling with a mixture of rage and overwhelming horror. "You ruined fifty years of my family's work... in one night!"

Vincent walked calmly across the Persian rug, pulling out a heavy leather armchair directly across from Salvatore, and sat down.

"Your nephew hurt a woman," Vincent said smoothly, crossing one leg over the other. "And he terrorized a seven-year-old girl. You built your empire on violence, Salvatore... but you forgot that violence without honor is just filth."

"It was a mistake!" Salvatore wept, slamming his fists onto the desk. "Gianni was an idiot! I didn't order the hit on the girl's mother! I didn't know!"

"You knew about the ledger," Vincent corrected him coldly. "You sent Gianni to find it. And when he brought her to Pier 42, you called Senator Vance to secure the federal cover-up."

Vincent reached into his coat and laid a single, printed piece of paper on the desk.

It was an official notice of asset seizure from the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority.

Account Balance: $0.00

Salvatore stared at the paper. The last remaining color drained from his face. His mouth opened and closed, but no sound came out.

"You have two choices, Salvatore," Vincent offered, his voice dropping into a quiet, absolute promise. "Option one: You sign the transfer of all your maritime properties to the Torino Trust, you step onto a private jet to a small estate in Sicily, and you never set foot on American soil again."

Salvatore swallowed hard, his hands shaking violently. "And... option two?"

Vincent leaned forward, his dark eyes locking onto Salvatore’s soul.

"Option two... I leave this room, and Marco comes inside."

Salvatore stared at the gold pen sitting beside his desk blotter. He looked at the paper. He looked at the man sitting across from him—a man who had completely dismantled an underworld dynasty in eighteen hours without breaking a single sweat.

With a shuddering, pathetic breath, Salvatore picked up the pen.
