Chapter 7 - The Battle in Court

Six months later.

The courthouse was packed with reporters, legal observers, and local supporters. I sat at the prosecution's witness table, wearing a dark suit, holding my head high. Across the room sat Eleanor and Vanessa in orange jumpsuits, their hands handcuffed to their waist chains. Eleanor looked aged and bitter, while Vanessa glared at me with pure venom.

Their defense attorney tried everything. He argued that Eli was an unruly child, that the injuries were accidental, and that Eleanor and Vanessa were being framed by a vengeful daughter seeking full control of the family history.

Then, the prosecution called their key witnesses.

First was Mr. Henderson, the neighbor, who clearly detailed hearing Eli’s desperate cries and seeing Vanessa push him down the concrete steps into the mud.

Next was Dr. Thorne, who presented cold, undeniable medical facts: "These injuries were inflicted with severe, deliberate force. They are consistent with physical torture, not a child falling down while playing."

Finally, the prosecutor played the audio recording of the phone call I received on that fateful night at 11:47 p.m.

The courtroom fell dead silent as my mother's laughter echoed through the speakers, followed by Vanessa’s cold voice: "He never listens. He got what he deserved."

Several jurors gasped. One woman on the jury covered her face in horror. Eleanor slumped in her chair, realizing that her own coldness had been laid bare for the world to judge.

When it was my turn to take the stand, I looked directly at my mother and sister.

"I trusted you with the most precious thing in my life," I said, my voice echoing clearly throughout the courtroom. "You took advantage of a child's trust, threw him to the cold, and tried to destroy his life for money. But Eli is strong. He survived your cruelty, and today, justice will prevail."
