Chapter 19 - The Final Confrontation

Twenty minutes later, Arthur Vance, sitting in a wheelchair pushed by Lily, arrived at the gates of the Vance estate alongside three tactical units of the New York State Police.
Thick black smoke rose from the west wing of the manor. Gunfire echoed through the gardens as Marcus and the loyal estate guards fought off Julian’s remaining mercenaries, who were trying to break through the reinforced steel doors of the study to access the central security vault.
"Julian!" Arthur’s voice boomed over the police loudspeaker, echoing across the lush gardens where, just days ago, they had celebrated their new family. "It’s over! The federal authorities have seized every bank account connected to Apex Global. You have nowhere left to run!"
Julian Vance emerged onto the second-floor balcony, holding a smoking rifle, his face twisted in madness. "You gave everything to strangers, Arthur! To a beggar girl from Central Park! I built this empire with my blood!"
"You built nothing but a house of lies!" Lily called out, stepping out from behind the tactical vehicles and walking toward the grand front steps, holding her father's old, dirt-stained coat—the very coat that hung in her shadowbox.
"Look at this coat, Julian!" Lily shouted into the summer wind. "This coat saw the darkest, coldest nights of my life. It reminded me that love and loyalty are worth more than all your stolen millions. You thought taking our money would make us weak. But it made us invincible!"

Julian raised his rifle, aiming directly at Lily. But before he could pull the trigger, Marcus broke through the balcony doors behind him, tackling Julian over the stone railing. They both fell onto the thick courtyard hedges below. Police officers swarmed the area instantly, slapping heavy steel cuffs on Julian and disarming the remaining mercenaries.
The fire was quickly contained, and as the smoke cleared, Ethan came running out of the front entrance, throwing his arms around Lily and Arthur. The nightmare that had haunted the Miller and Vance families for five long years was finally, completely shattered.
