Chapter 5 - Whispers in the Kitchen
Without a staff, Le Prestige was forced to shutter its doors temporarily. The health department, tipped off by state labor investigators reviewing Evelyn's evidence, arrived to conduct an unannounced, comprehensive safety inspection. They discovered decades of neglected maintenance, faulty wiring, and fire hazards that Victor had brushed aside to maximize profit margins.
Meanwhile, Evelyn received a visit from Chef Mateo and several former employees at her modest apartment.
"Mrs. Hale," Mateo said, handing her a worn leather notebook. "This is my personal kitchen log from the last twelve years. Every delivery you checked in, every shift you covered, every recipe you created. We all kept records. We always knew who really ran that place."
Tears welled in Evelyn’s eyes as she looked at the signatures of over thirty employees affirming her role as the true leader of the business. "Why did you keep this?" she asked.

Evelyn realized then that while Victor had built a empire of fear and ego, she had built a community of loyalty and respect.
