Chapter 10 - A New Sunrise

Three years later.
The morning sun cast a golden glow across the dining room of The Phoenix Table. The air was filled with the rich aroma of roasted coffee and freshly baked pastry.
Evelyn stood near the front entrance, reviewing the evening’s reservation book. The restaurant had just been awarded its first prestigious culinary award—not for ostentatious luxury, but for excellence in food, ethical leadership, and community service.
Her phone chimed with a news update. Victor had been granted early parole after serving his minimum sentence. He was broke, living in a modest apartment on the outskirts of another state, working an entry-level inventory job—the very work he had once looked down upon with such disdain.
Evelyn put her phone away without feeling a single pang of bitterness or sadness. His life was his own burden now.
The front door opened, and a young woman stepped inside, looking nervous and tired. She carried a worn binder of resumes. "Hi... are you hiring? I have experience in kitchens, but... my former employer took credit for everything I did. I don't have many references."
Evelyn looked at the young woman, seeing a flicker of her younger self in those weary eyes. She smiled warmly and gestured to a quiet table by the window.

"Have a seat," Evelyn said softly, pulling out a chair. "Tell me your story. At The Phoenix Table, nobody's hard work goes unseen."
Evelyn sat down beside her, fully in control of her life, her business, and her legacy—a woman who had broken her chains and built an empire of her own.
