Chapter 6 - THE FALL OF THORNE INDUSTRIES

Daniel’s world was crumbling around him at warp speed. He looked frantically around the room for help, but his board members were already walking out the door, desperate to distance themselves from the radioactive scandal.

"This is a setup!" Daniel shrieked, his voice cracking hysterically. "She’s lying! She forged those tapes! I built Thorne Industries! I am the CEO!"

"Not anymore," a stern voice boomed from the entrance.

Two armed Federal Marshals, accompanied by six agents from the IRS Criminal Investigation Division and the FBI, marched down the aisle.

The lead FBI Agent stepped up to Daniel, pulling a thick arrest warrant from his jacket.

"Daniel Thorne, you are under arrest for federal bank fraud, wire fraud, identity theft, forging military biometric signatures, money laundering, and treasonous conspiracy," the agent declared loudly.

"No! You can't arrest me!" Daniel screamed as a marshal grabbed his arm, forcing it behind his back. "I have a contract signing with the Secretary of Defense tonight!"

General Mercer stepped up to Daniel, leaning in close. "The Secretary of Defense personally signed your arrest warrant twenty minutes ago, Thorne. Your defense clearance is revoked. Your company’s assets are frozen. Thorne Industries is officially bankrupt."

The steel handcuffs snapped around Daniel’s wrists with a heavy, definitive click.

"Vanessa! Help me!" Daniel yelled, turning to his mistress.

But Vanessa was already backing away, trying to hide behind the crowd. "I didn't know anything about this! I was manipulated! He forced me to take the money!"

"Miss Vanessa Vance?" an IRS agent stepped in front of her, pulling out a second pair of handcuffs. "You are under arrest as an unindicted co-conspirator to grand larceny and tax evasion."

"Get your hands off me!" Vanessa shrieked as the steel cuffs clamped onto her manicured wrists. "I wear red bottom shoes! I don't go to jail!"

Meanwhile, Eleanor Thorne was hyperventilating, clutching her chest as two female federal agents approached her.

"Mrs. Eleanor Thorne," the agent said. "We have a warrant to seize that brooch as stolen federal property, and you are being detained for receiving stolen goods funded by military embezzlement."

"No! Not my emerald! Daniel bought it for me!" Eleanor screamed, resisting as the agents unpinned the brooch from her dress and placed it into a clear plastic evidence bag before slapping handcuffs onto her wrists. "Evelyn! Please! Tell them to stop! I'm your mother-in-law!"

Evelyn walked up to Eleanor, stopping inches away from her crying face.

"You called me an expensive, lethargic burden," Evelyn whispered, her voice colder than Arctic ice. "You wore my stolen blood pay while my children almost died alone. You aren't my mother-in-law, Eleanor. You're just a petty thief in cheap diamonds."

As Daniel, Vanessa, and Eleanor were dragged out of the grand ballroom in handcuffs, surrounded by flashing media cameras and shouting journalists, the high-society elites who had mocked Evelyn three days ago stood in respectful, terrified silence.

Evelyn turned back to General Mercer and Captain Torres, her posture straight, her mission accomplished.

"Good work, Colonel," Mercer said, saluting her warmly. "The Pentagon owes you a great debt."

Evelyn returned the salute flawlessly. "Thank you, General. But my real work is just beginning."
