Chapter 6 - The Infiltration

The Vance Estate in McLean, Virginia, was a massive, walled compound overlooking the Potomac River.

Rain glistened against the marble driveways as dozens of luxury black sedans pulled up to the grand front entrance. High-society guests in tuxedos and evening gowns filed into the lit ballroom, greeted by waiters carrying champagne trays and classical string quartets.

Outside the estate perimeter, parked in the shadow of a thick pine forest, sat Marcus’s grey SUV.

Inside the vehicle, Sarah was cradling baby Leo, who was warm, fed, and sleeping peacefully under Ellen’s watchful eye.

I sat in the middle seat, wearing a tailored black evening gown Marcus’s wife had provided, my hair styled elegantly, a sleek Bluetooth earpiece tucked into my ear. Beneath the silk fabric of my dress, I wore a discreet abdominal binder to support my postpartum recovery, along with a hidden body camera pinned to my lapel.

"Are you sure about this, Clara?" Sarah asked, holding my hand tightly. "If they catch you inside..."

"They won't catch me until it’s too late," I said, leaning over to kiss Leo’s soft cheek. "Stay in the vehicle with Marcus. If I’m not out in twenty minutes, release the digital files to the international press servers."

"Understood," Marcus confirmed from the driver's seat, holding an encrypted satellite transmitter. "Your security clearance badge is cloned from a senior catering manager. You have eight minutes before their security system updates its digital rotation."

I stepped out of the vehicle into the dark, cool night.

Using a service entrance near the estate’s wine cellar, I swiped the cloned keycard. The heavy steel door clicked open with a soft chime.

I slipped inside, walking past busy kitchen staff carrying silver platters of caviar and champagne. Nobody paid attention to a beautiful woman in a black gown carrying a clipboard; in high-society galas, confidence is the ultimate camouflage.

I walked up the grand spiral staircase leading into the second-floor VIP balcony overseeing the ballroom.

Below, three hundred prominent politicians, federal judges, and corporate titans were laughing, sipping champagne, and listening to smooth jazz.

At the center of the main stage stood Senator Richard Vance, standing beside his wife, smiling warmly as he accepted congratulations for a recent legislative victory.

I touched my lapel camera, confirming the green light was flashing, streaming live video directly to Marcus’s secure server.

I walked down the grand staircase, stepping into the center of the ballroom floor.

"Senator Vance!" my voice rang out—clear, sharp, and echoing like a thunderclap across the silent room.

The classical string quartet stopped playing instantly. Three hundred heads turned in complete shock.

Vance turned around, his smile freezing mid-face. His eyes widened in absolute, paralyzing horror as he recognized me.

May you like

"Clara...?" Vance gasped, his voice cracking through his lapel microphone.

"Good evening, Senator," I said, taking a slow, confident step toward the stage, my black heels clicking sharply against the marble floor. "I believe you’ve been looking for me."
