Chapter 9 - The New Dawn

Six months later, the Hastings estate was once again decorated for a grand event—but the atmosphere could not have been more different from the cold, snobbish gathering that had taken place half a year prior.

There were no crystal chandeliers glowing over fake smiles, no transactional corporate mergers disguised as romance, and no arrogant socialites looking down at the staff.

Instead, the vast back lawn overlooking the rolling hills was filled with colorful flower arrangements, floating white balloons, and warm string lights hanging from the old oak trees. The guests were real friends, trusted colleagues, staff members who were now treated as honored guests, and representatives from local children’s charities that Adrian and Rosa had jointly established.

In the master suite upstairs, Rosa stood before a full-length mirror, taking a deep breath as she adjusted her gown. It was a breathtaking, custom-made ivory silk dress with delicate lace sleeves, simple yet infinitely elegant.

A soft knock sounded at the door, and Evelyn walked in, wearing a dusty rose dress, holding a small silver box.

"You look absolutely magnificent, my dear," Evelyn said, her eyes misty with tears as she looked at Rosa.

"Thank you, Evelyn," Rosa said, her voice shaking slightly with nervous excitement. "I still feel like I’m going to wake up from a dream and find myself holding a mop in the basement."

"This is no dream, Rosa," Evelyn said gently, taking Rosa’s hands in hers. "You earned this peace. You fought for that little girl, and you brought warmth back into a house that was freezing to death. You belong here."

Evelyn opened the silver box, revealing a delicate gold necklace set with a rare, teardrop-shaped yellow diamond that sparkled in the sunlight.

"This belonged to Julianne," Evelyn said softly. "Adrian wanted you to have it today. He said Julianne would have wanted her best friend to wear it."

Rosa touched the cold gold of the necklace, tears of deep, healing emotion welling in her eyes. "She’s here with us today, isn't she?"

"In every smile on Mia’s face, yes," Evelyn smiled, gently fastening the necklace around Rosa’s neck.

A moment later, the door flew open, and four-year-old Mia came bouncing into the room. She was wearing a fluffy white flower-girl dress with a sash that matched Rosa’s gown. Her dark hair had grown back into a beautiful, thick crown of bouncy curls, completely hiding any trace of the cruel cut from six months ago.

"Mama! Mama! You look like a princess!" Mia cheered, twirling around in her little white shoes until she nearly tripped over her own skirt.

Rosa dropped to her knees, completely unconcerned about wrinkling her expensive dress, and pulled Mia into a tight, warm hug. "And you look like a little angel, mi vida."

"Uncle Adrian sent me to get you," Mia whispered conspiratorially into Rosa’s ear. "He said he can't wait any longer because his heart is beating too fast!"

Rosa laughed, a clear, beautiful sound that echoed through the room. She stood up, taking Mia’s little hand in hers. "Then we shouldn't keep him waiting."
