Chapter 9 - The Grand Opening

Eighteen months after the nightmare.

The grand opening of Aura Design Studios' new three-story headquarters in the heart of the downtown design district was the event of the season.

The building was a masterpiece of modern architecture, featuring glass walls, indoor gardens, and state-of-the-art design suites. Hundreds of clients, press reporters, friends, and family members gathered to celebrate the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Uncle Richard stood beside me, holding a pair of giant golden scissors.

"Ready, Amanda?" Uncle Richard asked, his eyes crinkling with pride.

"More than ready," I replied smoothly.

With a flash of cameras and loud cheers from the crowd, we cut the red ribbon. The doors swung open, welcoming guests into the stunning space.

During the reception, Victoria Vance walked up to me, sipping a glass of champagne, a triumphant smile on her face.

"I have a final legal update for you, Amanda," Victoria said smoothly.

"Oh?" I raised an eyebrow. "About Mark?"

"Mark was released on early parole yesterday after serving fourteen months," Victoria explained. "He’s currently living in a small studio apartment, working as a night-shift warehouse packer, paying off his remaining debt to your uncle's firm. Mary Davis tried to apply for a loan to buy a small townhome, but due to her bad credit and legal record, no bank will touch her. They are living in absolute obscurity."

I took a slow sip of my champagne, looking around at my beautiful, bustling design studio, filled with flowers, music, and success.

"Good," I said simply. "They are where they belong. In the past."

Victoria raised her glass. "To the past staying where it belongs, and to a brilliant future."

"To the future," I echoed, clinking my glass against hers.
