Chapter 3 - The Counterattack

The news of Mark’s eviction and the pending legal action hit the Davis family like a thermonuclear detonation.

By 2:00 PM, my phone was blowing up with frantic calls and toxic text messages from various members of the extended Davis family. Mary’s sister, Aunt Brenda, sent a five-paragraph text accusing me of being a "heartless gold-digger" who was trying to ruin a loving mother’s life over a "harmless family tradition."

I didn't waste time replying. I simply screenshotted every message and forwarded them directly to Victoria to add to our harassment file.

At 3:30 PM, I received a notification on my laptop. Susan had made a fatal error.

Driven by spite and a desperate attempt to control the narrative before the restraining order took full effect, Susan had uploaded a heavily edited ten-second clip of the morning's incident to her public Instagram account and the Davis Family Facebook group.

The edited clip showed me standing up from the bed, my face dark with rage, slapping Mark across the cheek. She had meticulously cut out the bucket of ice water, cut out her own taunting comments, and captioned the video:

"Look at the violent monster my brother married yesterday! She attacked him and his family on their first morning as husband and wife! Please share to expose this abusive woman!"

I stared at the screen, my blood boiling, but instead of panicking, a slow, predatory smile spread across my face.

"They really never learn, do they?" I murmured to myself.

I immediately called Victoria. "Victoria, check Susan’s Instagram. She just published the edited assault video."

"Excellent," Victoria responded without a moment’s hesitation. "She just committed criminal defamation, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and violated the preliminary injunction terms. I’m contacting the judge right now. We are converting the civil petition into a full legal lawsuit for libel and slander, seeking $250,000 in damages."

"Wait," I said, leaning back in my leather chair. "Don't take the video down just yet. Let her dig her own grave for two hours. Let the extended family comment on it. Let her think she’s winning."

"What are you planning, Amanda?" Victoria asked, her interest piqued.

"I’m going to host a live stream," I answered smoothly. "On the exact same family group chat and on Instagram. And I'm going to play the unedited, full-length iPad footage from start to finish, accompanied by the bank transfer records and the police report."

Thirty minutes later, the Davis family Facebook group—a digital community of over eighty relatives, including uncles, grandmothers, cousins, and family business associates—was buzzing with indignation over Susan’s post. Comments were flooding in:

"Unbelievable! Mark needs to divorce her immediately!"

"She belongs in prison!"

"I knew that girl was trouble the moment I saw her at the rehearsal dinner!"

At 4:30 PM, I logged into the Facebook group using my own account. I pinned a single post to the top of the page:

"To the Davis Family: Before you finish passing judgment, I invite you all to watch the unedited, full-length recording of this morning's 'tradition.' The broadcast begins in five minutes."

I set up my laptop, connected my high-definition webcam, and loaded the full 4K iPad security footage alongside the digital scans of Mark’s desperate text messages and the $15,000 wire transfer receipt.

At precisely 4:35 PM, I went live.

Within two minutes, over sixty members of the Davis family logged on, eager to see me attempt to justify my actions.

I didn't say a word at first. I simply sat in front of the camera, beautifully dressed, perfectly composed, and pressed Play on the video screen sharing.

The crisp, ultra-high-definition video filled their screens.

The family watched in real-time as Mary sneaked into my dark bedroom at 5:30 AM holding a bright red bucket of ice water. They heard Mary’s exact words echoed through their speakers: "A new bride gets washed with cold water at dawn to strip away her outsider pride and the bad luck she brought with her. We can’t have you dirtying our doorstep."

They saw Susan shoving the camera lens into my face, laughing grotesquely: "Let’s see how arrogant you are once I upload this to the extended family group chat!"

They saw Mark standing passively by the door, refusing to defend his wife.

And then, they saw the freezing water slam into my sleeping face, making me cough violently as I fought for air.

The chat window went completely, utterly silent. The influx of angry comments froze.

I paused the video right at the moment I stood up to defend myself, and then I flipped to the second screen: the certified bank statements showing $15,000 leaving my account to pay off Mark's illegal sports betting debts, accompanied by audio recordings of Mark weeping into his phone: "Amanda, please, if my mom finds out about the gambling debts, she’ll cut me off! Please save me!"

I looked directly into the camera lens, my tone cool, dignified, and devastatingly clear.

"This is the reality of the Davis family 'tradition,'" I announced to the eighty silent relatives watching across the country. "A tradition of bullying, financial leeching, physical assault, and cowardly deception. Susan Davis edited a video to frame me as an abuser. In reality, I was defending myself against an unlawful assault in my own home."

I pulled up a copy of the court order signed by the judge thirty minutes prior.

"As of 4:00 PM today, an emergency restraining order has been issued against Mary and Susan Davis. A lawsuit for $250,000 in defamation damages has been officially filed against Susan Davis. And my marriage to Mark Davis is officially being dissolved via annulment."

I paused, letting the crushing weight of my words settle over the audience.

"If any member of this family continues to harass me, enable this behavior, or publish false statements online, my legal team will add you to the lawsuit without hesitation. Have a wonderful evening."

I ended the live stream.

Within seconds, my phone began ringing off the hook. But this time, it wasn't toxic abuse. It was panic, shame, and horrified apologies from relatives who had realized the true nature of the monsters living among them.
