Chapter 7 - The Reclamation

Six months after the trial.

Spring had arrived, bringing lush green leaves, blooming cherry blossoms, and crisp, fresh air to the city.

I stood in the center of my newly renovated living room. The room where I had once been awakened by freezing water was now completely transformed. The dark hardwood floors were replaced with warm, light oak. Large floor-to-ceiling windows filled the space with golden sunlight, and elegant artwork hung on the cream-colored walls.

I had reclaimed my home. I had reclaimed my life.

The $250,000 judgment paid by Susan—funded through the forced liquidation of her mother’s country club real estate—had been invested wisely. I donated $100,000 to a local shelter for victims of domestic abuse and used the remaining funds to launch my own independent interior design consultancy firm, Aura Design Studios.

My firm had quickly become one of the most sought-after design agencies in the region, known for creating spaces that embodied strength, tranquility, and elegance.

My phone buzzed on the marble kitchen island. It was a message from my uncle, Richard.

Uncle Richard: Just checked the quarterly reports for Aura Studios. You’ve exceeded your sales targets by 40%. Proud of you, kiddo.

I smiled, typing a quick reply:

Amanda: Thanks to the best mentor a girl could ask for. Dinner at my place this Sunday?

Uncle Richard: Wouldn't miss it.

As I set my phone down, my front doorbell rang.

I walked to the door and opened it to find a handsome man standing on the porch holding a large bouquet of fresh white peonies and a blueprints tube.

It was Julian Vance—Victoria Vance’s younger brother and one of the top architectural engineers in the city, whom I had partnered with on several high-end commercial design projects over the past four months.

Julian had dark, intelligent eyes, a warm, genuine smile, and a character built on absolute integrity, respect, and kindness. Over the past few months, our professional partnership had naturally blossomed into something deep, beautiful, and profoundly healing.

"Hey," Julian smiled, handing me the flowers. "I hope I'm not early."

"You're right on time," I said, leaning in to kiss his cheek, inhaling the clean scent of his cologne. "Come on in."

Julian stepped into the foyer, looking around at the bright, sunlit space with genuine admiration. "Every time I walk into this house, I'm amazed by what you've built here, Amanda. It feels so... peaceful."

"It is peaceful," I agreed, taking his hand as we walked into the kitchen to place the flowers in a crystal vase. "Because only people who respect this house are allowed inside."

Julian looked at me, his eyes filled with warmth and deep respect. He reached out, gently tucking a strand of hair behind my ear.

"I spoke with the city planning board this morning," Julian said gently. "The permits for your new commercial studio downtown were approved. Construction starts next week."

I looked at him, feeling a wave of pure happiness wash over me. A year ago, I had been standing in a soaked bed, surrounded by monsters who tried to strip away my dignity. Today, I was the CEO of my own company, surrounded by love, success, and absolute freedom.

"Thank you, Julian," I said softly, leaning my head against his shoulder. "For everything."

"You did this yourself, Amanda," Julian whispered, wrapping his arm around my waist. "You built this strength."
