Chapter 10 - A Legacy of Love

Two years later.
The summer sun shone brightly over the lush gardens of the Vance Estate. The air was warm, filled with the scent of blooming roses and fresh pine.
Laughter echoed across the lawn.
Three-year-old Lily and Rose were running through the grass in matching yellow dresses, chasing a golden retriever puppy. They were healthy, vibrant, and utterly adored, knowing nothing of the darkness that had surrounded their birth.
I sat on a white wrought-iron bench on the terrace, watching them play. I wore an elegant white lace dress, a simple diamond band sparkling on my ring finger.
Footsteps approached from behind, and a pair of strong, warm arms wrapped around my shoulders. Elias buried his face in my hair, inhaling deeply.
"What are you thinking about, Mrs. Vance?" he murmured into my ear.
I leaned back against his chest, placing my hand over his. "I was thinking about the Hudson River overpass."
Elias quieted, his grip around me tightening affectionately. "That cold night."
"I was so close to giving up, Elias," I admitted softly, looking at my daughters laughing in the sun. "If your car hadn't stopped... if you hadn't opened your coat and pressed my freezing babies against your chest... we would be ghosts now."
Elias walked around the bench and sat beside me. He took my face in his hands, his gray eyes filled with a deep, endless devotion that made my heart leap just as it had the first day I truly saw him.
"You saved me too, Ava," Elias said, his voice trembling with genuine emotion. "Before I found you, I was just a ghost walking through a world of violence. I thought my life was meant to be lived in the dark. You gave me a family. You gave me a home. You showed me what it means to truly live."
He pulled me into a slow, deep kiss—a promise written not in blood or mafia pacts, but in love, respect, and unconditional devotion.
"Look, Mommy! Daddy!" Lily shouted, running up to the terrace with a handful of wild daisies, Rose trailing closely behind her. "Look what we found!"
Elias laughed—a bright, genuine sound that echoed through the garden—and scooped both girls up into his broad arms, swinging them around while they squealed with delight.
I stood up, watching the man who had once been the most feared Mafia boss in New York hold our daughters with the utmost tenderness.

My name is Ava Vance.
Once, I was a broken, invisible woman thrown away in the freezing snow because I bore daughters. But today, I stand as the queen of an empire, surrounded by the strength of a man who fought the world to protect us, and the bright, beautiful future of the children who were never a curse—but our greatest blessing.
