Chapter 9 - The Phoenix Kitchen

Six months later.
Spring had arrived in Chicago, bringing warm sunshine, blooming cherry blossoms, and blue skies over the Devo Estate.
The kitchen, which had suffered minor smoke damage during the autumn attack, had been completely rebuilt into a breathtaking, world-class culinary sanctuary. Designed entirely by Mara, it featured white marble counters, custom French copper ranges, panoramic glass walls looking out over a lush private herb garden, and a state-of-the-art testing facility.
Furthermore, Mara had officially published her first cookbook: "The Sovereign Table: Healing, Power, and the Art of Survival."
It became an instant global bestseller, dedicated entirely to her late grandmother and to every unnamed kitchen worker who had ever suffered in silence under abusive leadership.
On a glorious Saturday afternoon, the estate gardens were decorated with thousands of white roses and silver ribbons.
Over three hundred guests filled the lawn—not for a crime summit, but for a celebration of love, triumph, and rebirth.
Lucian Devo stood near the grand marble altar overlooking the lake, wearing a bespoke black tuxedo, his eyes fixed on the glass doors of the estate.
The doors opened.
Mara Bell walked down the aisle on the arm of Owen Kade, who had insisted on walking her down the path like a proud older brother.
Mara took everyone’s breath away.
She wore an exquisite ivory silk gown with delicate lace sleeves, her dark hair styled in a crown of wild white orchids. Her posture was regal, her eyes shining with pure, radiant happiness. She carried no bitterness, no fear, and no painful memories of the past. She was a woman who had conquered her mountains and claimed her crown.
When Owen handed her hand to Lucian, Lucian leaned down and whispered softly into her ear:
“You are the most beautiful vision I have ever seen in my life, Chef Bell.”
“And you, Mr. Devo, look almost presentable,” Mara teased back, a gorgeous laugh escaping her lips.

The ceremony was brief, powerful, and filled with deep emotion.
When the magistrate pronounced them husband and wife, Lucian pulled Mara into his arms and kissed her deeply, as the crowd exploded into joyous applause, throwing white rose petals into the warm spring air.
