Chapter 7 - The Siege of Grayhaven

Gabriel’s eyes hardened instantly, the warmth vanishing behind a wall of military ice.

“Stay in this room,” Gabriel ordered, pulling his sidearm from his waistband. “Lock the reinforced steel doors behind me. Do not open them for anyone except me or Leo.”

“Gabriel, no!” Emma cried, grabbing his wrist. “What’s happening?!”

“The head of the Iron Covenant, Victor Kross, brought his entire mercenary army,” Gabriel said calmly, chambering a round. “He knows Julian failed. He’s throwing everything he has at this cliff.”

He leaned down, kissed Emma fiercely on the lips one more time, and stepped out into the hallway as the heavy steel blast doors slammed shut, sealing Emma and the children inside.

Outside, the quiet night erupted into absolute hell.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

Heavy thermite explosives blasted through the lower gates of the Fortress.

Dozens of elite mercenaries in tactical armor poured into the courtyard, firing automatic weapons and rocket-propelled grenades at the estate.

Gabriel sprinted onto the main command balcony overlooking the courtyard. His lieutenant was already coordinating the defense.

“Boss!” the lieutenant yelled over the deafening roar of gunfire. “They brought sixty men! Three armored personnel carriers! They’re trying to burn us out!”

Gabriel grabbed a heavy M249 SAW machine gun mounted on the balcony rail.

“Let them come!” Gabriel roared, his voice echoing over the storm.

RAT-AT-AT-AT-AT-AT-AT!

Gabriel unleashed a terrifying wall of lead into the advancing mercenaries. Years of SEAL Team Six combat experience took over. He didn't fire blindly; he laid down lethal kill-zones, cutting down the front line of attackers and forcing the armored vehicles to halt.

Syndicate guards fired down from the high stone walls, raining sniper fire and grenades onto the invaders.

Through the smoke and fire in the lower yard, a massive armored vehicle smashed through the inner courtyard doors.

Out stepped Victor Kross—a scarred, fifty-year-old former Spetsnaz operative holding a grenade launcher.

“VANCE!” Kross bellowed into a loudspeaker, his raspy voice cutting through the gunfire. “Give me the widow and the girl! Give me the drive! Or I will blow this entire cliff into the ocean!”

Gabriel ducked behind a concrete pillar as a grenade exploded thirty feet away, sending shrapnel whistling through the air.

He picked up his radio headset. “Tech team, activate Protocol Omega.”

“Boss?” the tech operator stammered. “Protocol Omega? That will collapse the lower tunnels!”

“Do it,” Gabriel commanded. “Trap them in the courtyard.”

Gabriel pulled two heavy thermite grenades from his chest rig, pulled the pins with his teeth, and leaped off the second-story balcony into the courtyard below.
