Chapter 6 - The Return of the King

The grand ballroom of the Drake Hotel was buzzing with tense, anxious energy.

Marco Bellaro stood near the central marble staircase, holding a glass of champagne, surrounded by twelve heavily armed bodyguards. Beside him stood Viktor, looking at his watch impatiently.

"It’s nine o'clock," Marco whispered nervously, sweating through his collar. "He isn't coming. He died in that tower."

Suddenly, the heavy double doors of the grand ballroom were thrown open.

The music stopped instantly.

The two hundred socialites and syndicate bosses froze in place, turning their heads toward the entrance.

Stepping through the doorway came Mateo Bellaro.

He walked with absolute, supreme authority, his head held high, his posture immaculate, utterly concealing the severe physical pain burning through his surgical wounds.

And walking proudly beside him, her hand resting firmly on his arm, was Mara Ellis—her emerald dress shining brilliantly beneath the crystal chandeliers, looking every bit the sovereign queen of the Bellaro empire.

Behind them marched Dominic and fifty elite Bellaro enforcers, their dark suits tailored over heavy body armor, their hands resting casually near their shoulder holsters.

A collective, terrified gasp rippled through the ballroom.

"My God..." a senator whispered from the crowd. "He’s alive."

Marco dropped his champagne glass, the crystal shattering loudly against the polished floor. His face turned completely white, his knees trembling violently as he backed away toward the staircase.

Mateo walked down the central aisle, the crowd parting instantly before him like the Red Sea. No one dared to breathe. No one dared to raise a weapon. The sheer, overwhelming aura of absolute power radiating from Mateo crushed any thought of resistance.

Mateo stopped ten paces away from Marco and Viktor, his dark eyes locking onto his traitorous cousin.

"Marco," Mateo spoke, his voice echoing clearly through the silent, cavernous ballroom. "You broke the sacred covenant of the family. You ambushed your Don. You targeted my seven-year-old son."

"Mateo... please!" Marco stammered, his voice cracking hysterically as he looked around at his allied bosses for help. "It was a mistake! Viktor told me to do it! He promised me the Northside territories!"

Viktor’s eyes widened in rage. "You lying worm!"

"Silence!" Mateo roared, a sound so violent and powerful that several women in the gallery gasped.

Mateo took a step forward, pulling a velvet-wrapped dossier from Dominic’s hands and tossing it onto the marble table in front of the syndicate bosses.

"Inside that dossier," Mateo revealed coldly, "are the bank routing numbers, execution logs, and wiretaps proving that Marco and Viktor planned to assassinate every boss in this room after taking my throne."

The syndicate bosses swarmed the table, frantically reading through the documents. Within ten seconds, their faces turned from curiosity to pure, murderous fury as they realized Marco had set them up to be slaughtered.

Viktor turned toward Marco, drawing his pistol in a flash of blind rage. "You treacherous snake!"

PFT!

A single, suppressed gunshot rang out.

Viktor dropped his gun, staggering back as a bullet hole appeared directly in the center of his forehead. He collapsed onto the marble floor, dead before he hit the ground.

Standing beside Mateo, Dominic lowered his silenced sidearm.

Marco fell to his knees on the floor, weeping hysterically, clutching his hands together in pathetic desperation. "Mateo! Please! We are blood! Spare me! Send me to Europe! I’ll never return!"

Mateo looked down at his crying cousin with absolute, unyielding coldness.

"You are not my blood, Marco," Mateo said softly. "You are just a disease I am cutting out of my family."

Mateo offered a simple, faint nod to Dominic.

Four Bellaro enforcers stepped forward, grabbing Marco by his arms, dragging him backward out through the rear service doors. His frantic, pathetic screams echoed down the corridor until the heavy steel doors shut, sealing his fate forever.

Mateo turned around, facing the remaining syndicate bosses, politicians, and elites in the room.

He raised his right hand, the crowned-wolf signet ring catching the light of the chandeliers.

"The Bellaro family stands unbroken," Mateo announced, his voice vibrating with absolute, undisputed authority. "Anyone who wishes to challenge my rule... step forward now."

The silence in the room was absolute.

One by one, every syndicate boss, senator, and billionaire in the room bowed their heads in total, unconditional surrender.
