Chapter 8 - The Trap

Two weeks passed. Sienna tried to return to normalcy, but her heart wasn't in it. She found a job at a quiet library, far away from the neon lights of the Onyx Lounge. But she couldn't forget the look in Dawson's eyes before he pushed her away—it wasn't hatred; it was agony.
Her suspicions were confirmed when Paulie, her old manager, cornered her outside her apartment. He was bleeding from a head wound.
"Sienna... you have to help him," Paulie gasped. "Salvatore... it was a setup. He lured Dawson to the abandoned rail yard on the South Side. Vittorio is compromised. They're going to kill Dawson tonight."
Sienna didn't hesitate. She forgot the heartbreak, the cruel words, and the safety she had fought so hard to achieve.
"Where exactly?" she demanded.
She drove her battered sedan through a torrential downpour, her mind racing. She knew she couldn't outfight a dozen mobsters, but she had something they didn't expect: she knew the layout of the old rail yard from her father's old trucking days.
When she arrived, the area was dark, save for the headlights of three black SUVs surrounding an old warehouse. She slipped inside through a broken ventilation shaft, her heart hammering.

Below her, Dawson was tied to a heavy steel chair, his face beaten and bloodied, but his eyes still burning with defiant rage. Salvatore stood over him, holding a silenced pistol.
"Your father is finished, Dawson. And so are you," Salvatore sneered.
