Chapter 8 - The Rebirth of Vance Dynamics

Three months later.
The high-rise office building of Vance Dynamics in downtown Chicago was humming with new energy.
The toxic atmosphere of fear, hidden side-deals, and chaos that Daniel had cultivated had been completely swept away.
I took over as CEO with a clear, unyielding vision. I hired an expert executive management team, restructured the internal compliance departments, and met face-to-face with the original venture investors who had been defrauded by Daniel.
Impressed by my forensic accounting background and my absolute transparency, the investors unanimously voted to keep their capital in the company.
On a bright Monday morning, I stood at the head of the glass-walled boardroom—the very room where Daniel had attempted to execute his illegal buy-out three months ago.
Across the table sat Eleanor Vance and the new executive board of Global Tech Solutions.
"Mrs. Vance," Eleanor said, a genuine smile on her face as she opened a new leather binder. "We have completed our audit of the restructured Vance Dynamics. Under your leadership, corporate transparency has reached 100%, and the new software IP portfolio is stronger than ever."
"Thank you, Eleanor," I said, sitting tall and confident at the head of the table. "We are ready to move forward."
"Global Tech is pleased to submit a revised buy-out offer for Vance Dynamics," Eleanor announced, sliding the contract across the table. "At a total valuation of $65 million. As 85% equity owner, your personal payout will be $55.2 million."
I looked down at the signature line on the contract.
I picked up my pen—a simple, elegant silver fountain pen—and signed my name in clear, dark ink: Sarah Hayes.
I had legally dropped Daniel’s last name two weeks prior, reclaiming my maiden identity.
The board members stood up, erupting into warm, sustained applause. Eleanor walked around the table, taking my hand in a firm, respectful grip.

"It is a pleasure doing business with a true leader, Ms. Hayes," Eleanor said.
"The pleasure is all mine, Eleanor," I smiled warmly.
