Chapter 9 - The Vows on the Cliff

One year later.

The summer sun dipped over the horizon of Long Island Sound, painting the sky in breathtaking shades of rose, gold, and deep indigo.

On the manicured lawn of the Vance Estate, overlooking the crashing blue waves, a grand white pavilion was set up with hundreds of white roses, orchids, and glowing crystal lanterns.

Two hundred guests—city leaders, medical staff from Rivergate General, reformed syndicate leaders, and federal judges—sat in the white chairs, watching the ceremony.

At the altar stood Julian. He looked magnificent in a dark tuxedo, his icy gray eyes burning with pure, emotional warmth as he watched his bride walk down the petal-covered aisle.

Little Lily walked ahead as the flower girl, wearing a white silk dress, tossing pink rose petals with a huge, radiant grin.

Beside her walked Elena.

She looked like a vision from a dream. Her white satin wedding gown draped gracefully over her frame, extending into a magnificent train that swept across the grass. Her veil fluttered softly in the warm sea breeze, her hazel eyes fixed entirely on the man waiting for her at the end of the aisle.

Dominic Vance walked her down the aisle, placing her hand gently into Julian’s large, warm palm.

"Take care of her, nephew," Dominic said with tears in his eyes.

"With my life, Uncle," Julian promised softly.

The priest stood before them, his voice echoing warmly over the sound of the ocean breeze.

"Julian and Elena... today you join your lives, your hearts, and your families into an unbroken bond of love and protection. Julian, do you take Elena to be your wedded wife?"

Julian looked down into Elena’s radiant eyes, his voice deep, steady, and full of absolute devotion.

"I do."

"And do you, Elena, take Julian to be your wedded husband?"

Elena smiled, her heart overflowing with love. "I do."

"By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride!"

Julian pulled Elena into his arms, lifting her slightly off her feet, and kissed her passionately as the entire crowd erupted into thunderous, joyous applause.

Lily ran up to the altar, throwing her arms around both of their legs. Julian leaned down, picking up his daughter in his right arm, holding his wife tight against his side with his left.

They stood together on the cliff, framed by the golden sunset, surrounded by love, security, and everlasting light.
