Chapter 8 - The Dawn of a New Era

Six months later.

The morning sun broke brightly over the Manhattan skyline, flooding the fourth floor of Rivergate General Hospital with warm, golden light.

The hospital was completely restored. A new, state-of-the-art pediatric wing had been constructed on the east side—funded entirely by an anonymous hundred-million-dollar endowment from the newly established Vance Foundation.

In the central nurses' station, Viola Reyes sat behind her glasses, sipping her morning tea, watching the floor with her usual, sharp satisfaction.

The automatic double doors slid open.

Elena walked onto the floor.

She wore her crisp, dark blue scrubs, her dark hair pulled back into a neat braid, looking radiant, healthy, and full of life. But on her left ring finger sat a breathtaking, flawless six-carat emerald-cut diamond ring that caught the morning light with dazzling brilliant sparkles.

"Morning, Viola," Elena smiled warmly, setting a box of fresh pastries on the counter.

Viola looked up, eyeing the massive diamond ring, then looked up into Elena’s glowing face.

"Mrs. Vance," Viola purred softly, a rare, genuine smile touching her wrinkled face. "I see the hospital donor board finally caught up with who actually runs this place."

Elena laughed—a clear, joyous sound that echoed down the hallway. "Dr. Wexler signed the new nursing budget yesterday without asking a single question."

"Of course he did," Viola snorted. "Your husband bought the building three weeks ago."

Before Elena could answer, a tall, handsome man in a bespoke midnight-blue suit walked onto the floor, holding seven-year-old Lily’s hand.

It was Julian.

He looked majestic, powerful, and utterly refined. The dark, terrifying aura that had once frightened the entire city was now softened by a quiet, unshakeable peace.

"Daddy!" Lily squealed, pointing at the new pediatric play area. "Look! They put the big Lego set in!"

Julian smiled down at his daughter, kneeling down to adjust her hair bow. "I know, sweetheart. I picked it out myself."

He stood up, walking over to Elena, wrapping his arm around her waist, pulling her close against his side, and pressing a sweet, lingering kiss against her forehead.

"Are you ready for lunch, my love?" Julian murmured softly against her ear.

Elena looked up at her husband—the man who had transformed from a terrifying underworld legend into her protector, her partner, and her greatest love.

"Always, Mr. Vance," Elena smiled, touching his cheek.
