Chapter 7 - The Turning Tide

The preliminary hearing arrived on a rainy Tuesday morning. Mark walked into the courthouse flanked by high-priced defense lawyers, flashing confident smiles to the reporters gathered outside. He truly believed his charisma, wealth, and clean background would win the judge over.

Inside the courtroom, Mark's legal team presented their case, painting me as unstable and unfit. But when Julian took the podium, the atmosphere shifted instantly. He did not raise his voice; he simply played the evidence.

On the large screens in the courtroom, Julian synchronized two pieces of media: the emergency room entry log showing my critical blood loss and near-fatal vitals, side-by-side with Mark's mountain resort video. The courtroom fell dead silent as Mark’s jovial voice echoed through the speakers: "Shout-out to every guy dealing with high-maintenance wives... Happy birthday to me!" The judge’s face hardened into stone. By the end of the session, the judge granted me sole physical and legal custody, extended the protective order indefinitely, and ordered Mark to vacate our marital home within twenty-four hours under police supervision.
