Chapter 9 - The Wedding of White and Gold

Three months later, spring had arrived in full bloom.
The Russo estate was transformed into a fairytale palace. Thousands of white roses, pale peony blossoms, and gold ribbons draped the grand marble staircases and the vast velvet lawns. The sky above was a brilliant, cloudless blue, and the air smelled of sweet jasmine and warm spring rain.
Over three hundred guests were assembled on the lawn—prominent city leaders, business executives, international associates, and neighborhood friends from Serena’s past who had been located and invited by Dominic’s team.
Inside the master suite, Serena stood before a floor-to-ceiling mirror, taking her own breath away.
She wore a breathtaking custom gown of ivory silk and French lace, designed with a sweetheart neckline and a long, sweeping train embroidered with delicate gold thread. Her amber eyes shone with vibrant health and profound happiness, her dark hair styled in elegant waves adorned with small pearl pins.
Beside her, little Rose and Lily bounced excitedly in matching pale pink tulle dresses, holding small baskets filled with white rose petals.
"Mommy! Mommy! You look like a real queen!" Lily giggled, hugging Serena’s skirts carefully.
"You look beautiful, Mom," Rose added softly, her small hand reaching up to touch Serena’s veil.
A soft knock sounded at the door, and Mrs. Gable stepped inside, her eyes brimming with tears. "It is time, Mrs. Russo."
Down the grand aisle laid out over the emerald lawn, soft violin music floated through the spring breeze.
Dominic stood at the altar before a magnificent arch of white roses. He wore a crisp black tuxedo, looking impeccably handsome, his eyes fixed on the doors at the end of the aisle with an intense, unyielding focus.
The brass doors opened.
Serena stepped out onto the aisle, holding a delicate bouquet of white carnations and lily of the valley. Beside her, Rose and Lily walked proudly, scattering petals before their mother.
When Dominic saw her, his breath hitched in his chest. The feared mafia don—a man who had never shown weakness or hesitation before any enemy—felt tears of pure, unadulterated joy welling in his eyes.
Serena walked down the aisle, her eyes locked onto his, every step erasing the years of pain, hunger, and fear she had endured.
When she reached the altar, Dominic took her hand. His grip was warm, strong, and steady—the same hand that had pulled her out of the freezing snow on 18th Street.
"You are breathtaking," Dominic whispered, his voice thick with emotion.
May you like
"You saved my life, Dominic," Serena whispered back, her smile radiant. "In every way a person can be saved."
The ceremony was brief, solemn, and beautiful. When the priest declared them husband and wife, Dominic pulled Serena into his arms, kissing her deeply as the crowd erupted into thunderous applause, and hundreds of white doves were released into the brilliant blue sky above.
