Chapter 10 - The Promise of Forever

One year later.
The summer sunset over Lake Michigan cast a brilliant golden glow across the rear terrace of the Russo estate.
On the manicured lawn below, five-year-old Rose and Lily were playing happily with a playful golden retriever puppy Dominic had bought for their birthday, their joyful laughter echoing through the warm evening air.
On the stone terrace, Serena sat on a plush outdoor sofa, wrapped in a light silk shawl. In her arms, she held a two-month-old baby boy—Dominic Jr.—who was sleeping peacefully, wrapped in a soft white blanket.
Dominic walked out onto the terrace, carrying two glasses of fresh lemonade. He set the glasses down on the table, walked over to the sofa, and sat down beside his wife.
He leaned down, kissing the baby’s soft forehead, before wrapping his arm securely around Serena’s shoulders, pulling her tight against his side.
"He's fast asleep," Serena smiled softly, resting her head against Dominic’s shoulder.
"He takes after his mother," Dominic replied, his eyes watching the girls playing on the lawn. "Peaceful, strong, and beautiful."
Serena looked out over the sprawling, sunlit estate—the home where her children were safe, loved, and cherished beyond measure. She thought back to that freezing winter night on 18th Street, when she had huddled on the cold pavement, believing her life was over and that vengeance was coming for her.
She reached out, her fingers linking through Dominic’s broad, strong hand.
"Do you remember what you said to me in the car that night, Dominic?" she asked softly. "When I asked you if you were taking us for pity?"
Dominic looked down at her, his dark eyes filled with a deep, everlasting warmth. "I told you it wasn't pity."
"And what was it?" she whispered, a gentle smile playing on her lips.
Dominic leaned down, pressing his lips softly against hers, before resting his forehead against hers.

"It was destiny, Serena," Dominic murmured with absolute, unshakeable certainty. "I waited twelve years to bring my family home. And I will spend the rest of my life making sure you never feel cold again."
Across the golden lawn, the twins ran up the terrace steps, laughing as they piled onto the sofa beside their parents. Dominic wrapped his long arms around all of them—his wife, his daughters, and his infant son—holding them close under the warm, golden light of a promise fulfilled, and a love that had conquered the darkest night.
