Chapter 8 - The Gift in the Garden

Six months later.

Spring had arrived in New Jersey, turning the estate's sprawling gardens into a sea of blooming cherry blossoms, green lawns, and vibrant tulips.

The high security fences around the mansion had been lowered, replaced by elegant stone walls and open iron gates that welcomed sunlight and fresh country air.

In the center of the garden, a brand-new, custom-built physical therapy pavilion had been constructed, featuring state-of-the-art hydrotherapy pools, robotic assistance harness grids, and sensory play areas for children suffering from spinal trauma.

Every afternoon, dozens of pediatric patients from across the tri-state area came to the pavilion, receiving world-class medical care completely free of charge, funded entirely by Falcone Global Logistics and directed personally by Rosalind.

Nico stood on the stone terrace, watching the busy, joyous scene below. He was holding a glass of iced tea, wearing a white linen shirt, a quiet sense of profound peace resting over his once-tormented soul.

Dante walked up beside him, wearing a casual suit without his usual shoulder holster.

"The federal compliance auditors just finished their final quarterly review, Boss," Dante reported, a wide grin on his weathered face. "The Falcone family is officially one hundred percent clean. Not a single red flag, not a single illegal dollar. You're a legitimate businessman, Nico."

Nico chuckled, taking a sip of his tea. "How does it feel, Dante? No more middle-of-the-night harbor shootouts?"

"To be honest?" Dante laughed, looking out at the children playing in the garden. "I prefer holding the kick-boards in the pool for Marco. The kid has a vicious left kick now."

Down in the garden, Marco was walking across the soft lawn using two light medical canes, his posture straight, his confidence radiating with every step. Beside him, Lucia was walking hand-in-hand with Rosalind, her steps slow but steady, her purple shoes treading proudly over the grass.

Rosalind looked up toward the terrace, catching Nico's eye. She waved at him, her warm brown eyes glittering under the afternoon sun, her smile brighter than any flower in the garden.

Nico felt a familiar, powerful surge of love swell inside his chest. He handed his glass to Dante and walked down the stone stairs into the garden.

As he approached, Marco kicked a small soccer ball toward his father. Nico caught it easily with his foot, tapping it back to his son with a warm laugh.

"You're getting fast, Marco," Nico praised, ruffling his son's dark hair. "Next month, we're putting you on the local youth league."

"Rose says I'm going to be the striker!" Marco declared proudly before turning to race Lucia toward the ice cream cart near the pavilion.

Nico walked up behind Rosalind, wrapping his arms around her waist, pulling her back flush against his chest. He buried his face into the soft crook of her neck, breathing in the scent of rain, lavender, and home.

"You look happy, Agent Vance," Nico murmured playfully against her skin.

Rosalind turned in his arms, wrapping her hands around his neck, looking up into his handsome, relaxed face. The harsh lines of violence and sorrow that had once defined his features were completely gone, replaced by a deep, magnificent warmth.

"I am happy, Mr. Falcone," Rosalind whispered softly. "I have everything I ever wanted right here."

Nico reached into his pocket, his heavy fingers closing around a small velvet box he had been carrying for three weeks.
