Chapter 6 - The Hospital Siege

I woke up, exhausted, to the sound of two babies crying. My twins. A boy and a girl. They were perfect. They were mine.

The joy was interrupted by a commotion in the hallway.

"I am the father!" Evan’s voice, raised and demanding. "I have a right to be there! She’s my wife!"

I sat up, ignoring the pain of my recovery. I pressed the call button.

"Security," the nurse said, answering immediately. "Yes, we have a disturbance."

I heard the guards escorting them out. Evan’s protests grew faint.

A moment later, my lawyer walked into the room. She looked at the babies, then at me, and smiled.

"We got the court order, Natalie," she said. "A temporary restraining order against both of them. And the financial fraud investigation has officially moved to the District Attorney's office. Rebecca is being questioned as we speak."
