Chapter 4 - The Empty Vault

The next morning, Rebecca made her move.
She assumed I was terrified. She assumed I would come crawling back to "make a deal." She didn't know that I had already triggered the emergency transfer of the education fund into a blind trust managed by my lawyer’s firm.
She tried to withdraw the funds. The bank teller, prepared by my legal team, smiled and told her the account was frozen due to "suspicious activity and an ongoing investigation into potential embezzlement."
I wasn't there, but I could imagine her face.
She called my phone, screaming so loud I had to hold it away from my ear.
"You little witch! Where is the money? The lender is coming to my house! I have to pay them!"
"You should have thought about that before you tried to steal from your unborn niece and nephew, Rebecca," I said calmly. "The money is in a trust. It’s untouchable. You're broke. And I have the receipts to prove it."
"I will destroy you," she shrieked. "I’ll tell everyone you're crazy. I’ll make sure you never get custody!"

I had sent the evidence of her embezzlement to her boutique’s main investor. The empire she built on lies was about to collapse.
