Chapter 4 - THE MOONLINT DOCKS

The revelation changed everything. Siena Valenti was stalking Leo, and she had already bypassed Enzo’s security once at the boy's school without Enzo even knowing about it.
Sarah knew she couldn't stay passive. Enzo was a powerful tyrant, but his arrogance was his blind spot. He believed his money and guns could protect everything, yet his child had almost died right in front of him.
Later that night, around 2:00 AM, while the penthouse was silent and dark, Sarah slipped out of bed. Her leg throbbed with a dull ache, but she pushed through the pain. She had spent the last two weeks observing Val’s routine. Every night at 2:15 AM, he went down to the building’s private security office on the sub-basement floor to conduct the shift change with the night guards.
Using a keycard she had quietly pocketed from a sleeping guard’s jacket two days earlier, Sarah took the service elevator down to the safehouse basement garage.
Her goal was simple: information.
Enzo’s private library on the main floor of the penthouse was kept locked, but she knew Val kept duplicate physical files on syndicate rivals in the trunk of his armored SUV parked in the sub-basement.
The basement was cold, dark, and filled with the metallic scent of engine oil and exhaust. Sarah moved carefully between the luxury vehicles, staying low in the shadows. She reached Val’s dark gray Suburban, slipped the stolen master fob out of her pocket, and pressed the unlock button.
The lights flashed silently.
She gently opened the tailgate, leaning inside to search through the heavy black tactical cases stored in the back.
Her fingers brushed against physical paper folders marked with red security tabs. She pulled one out. Printed across the top in bold letters was the name: VALENTI, SIENA.
Sarah opened the folder under the faint illumination of her phone screen. Inside were surveillance photos of a strikingly handsome woman in her late twenties with sharp blue eyes, raven hair, and a ruthless, unyielding demeanor. But as Sarah flipped through the pages, a news clipping caught her eye.
It was an article from three years ago:
"Tragic Pier Collapse Claims Life of 5-Year-Old Mia Valenti; Investigation Ongoing."
Sarah scanned the article rapidly. The tragedy had occurred at a commercial pier owned by Caruso Shipping. The official police report cited structural failure due to neglected maintenance. The child who died was Siena Valenti’s younger sister.
An eye for an eye, Sarah realized with a sickening shudder. Enzo’s negligence killed Siena’s little sister three years ago. Siena wasn't trying to take over the syndicate—she was trying to make Enzo watch his own child die, just as she had watched hers.
Suddenly, the harsh sound of a gun cocking echoed through the quiet garage, echoing off the concrete walls.
"You're far from your bedroom, little bird," a smooth, razor-sharp female voice called out from the darkness behind the car.
Sarah froze, her heart leaping into her throat. She slowly turned around, raising her hands into the air.
Standing ten feet away in the shadows of the garage pillars was Siena Valenti herself.
She was dressed in a sleek black leather coat, a suppressed silver pistol held with terrifying precision, aimed directly at Sarah’s chest. On her lapel, illuminated by the dim garage lighting, was the Silver Serpent pin.
Behind her stood three heavily armed men in black tactical gear, their weapons drawn.
"How did you get in here?" Sarah gasped, her heart hammering against her ribs.
Siena stepped closer, her eyes scanning Sarah from head to toe, noting the slight limp and the pale skin of someone still recovering from severe trauma.
"Enzo Caruso thinks his security is impenetrable," Siena said, her voice dripping with ice-cold contempt. "He bought off the building manager six months ago. What he doesn't know is that I bought off the building’s architect ten years ago. This entire structure has service access points his guards don't even know exist."
Siena lowered her weapon slightly, her gaze locking onto Sarah’s face. "You're the server from the Halston. The stupid girl who took three bullets for Enzo’s spawn."
"He's a six-year-old child!" Sarah said, stepping forward, ignoring the weapons pointed at her. "He didn't collapse that pier! He didn't hurt your sister! He’s innocent!"
Siena’s eyes flared with sudden, blazing rage. The smooth, calm facade cracked, revealing a deep, unhealing wound.
"Innocent?!" Siena spat, stepping right into Sarah’s space, pushing the cold metal barrel of her pistol directly against Sarah’s forehead. "My sister was five years old! She was eating ice cream on that pier when Enzo’s rotting support beams gave way! He knew the pier was unsafe! He refused to fix it because it would cost him two hundred thousand dollars in lost shipping revenue! He killed my sister for pocket change, and the courts let him walk because he bought the judges!"
Sarah stared into Siena’s tear-streaked, angry eyes. She felt the heavy weight of the woman's grief. It was real, raw, and devastating.
"I know what it’s like to lose family," Sarah said softly, keeping her voice completely steady. "My parents died in a car crash when I was eighteen. I had to raise my little brother alone. If someone took him from me, I’d want to tear the world down."
Siena blinked, caught off guard by Sarah’s lack of fear and genuine empathy.
"But killing Leo won't bring your sister back," Sarah continued gently. "It won't heal you. It will just turn you into the exact same monster that Enzo is."
Siena stood frozen for a long moment, the barrel of her gun trembling slightly against Sarah’s skin. The silence in the garage was deafening.
Then, the elevator bell dinged at the far end of the garage.
Heavy footsteps and loud voices echoed out. Val and four Caruso guards were stepping out onto the concrete, returning early from their sweep.
"Boss! We got a perimeter trip in the lower level!" a guard shouted.
Siena snapped back to reality. Her expression hardened once more into stone. Instead of pulling the trigger, she pulled the butt of her pistol back and struck Sarah violently across the jaw.
Sarah hit the concrete floor hard, darkness blacking out her vision for a split second as blood bloomed in her mouth.
"Grab the girl," Siena commanded her men coldly. "If Enzo cares enough to keep her in his penthouse, she’s our new leverage. We take her with us."

Before Sarah could scramble to her feet, a heavy cloth covered with sweet-smelling chloroform was slammed over her nose and mouth. She fought, kicking violently, but her weakened body couldn't fight off the heavy tactical guards.
As the world dissolved into blackness, she heard the distant sound of gunfire erupting in the garage behind them.
