Chapter 6 - The Fall of the Lion

Hector’s face turned from pale to ghostly white.
He whipped his hand into his coat pocket, pulling out his encrypted smartphone. The screen was flashing with twenty missed calls from his chief financial officer and his lead attorney.
"You... you called the Feds?" Hector gasped, looking at Adrien in absolute disbelief. "You're Don Moretti! You don't go to the authorities!"
"I didn't call the Feds, Hector," Adrien replied, a dark, victorious smile gracing his lips. "Claire did."
Hector froze. "Claire has been dead for eight months!"
"Before she died," Adrien explained, pulling a flash drive from his jacket, "Claire created an encrypted fail-safe folder containing every transaction receipt, every money-laundering ledger, and every recorded phone call from your foundation. She locked it inside an offshore server, set to release if she ever failed to enter her security key for nine consecutive months."
Adrien set the flash drive on the table beside the lead-lined pouch.
"That countdown expired at midnight last night, Hector," Adrien whispered. "The Department of Justice now has everything. Your assets are frozen. Your lieutenants are being arrested across the state. And the video file you used to blackmail Marcus? The FBI recovered it from your private server an hour ago. You’re being charged with first-degree capital murder."
Sirens suddenly echoed in the distance—dozens of them, wailing through the streets of Little Italy, approaching Il Giardino from every direction.
The eight Lucchesi guards panicked, looking at their boss, then at the windows flashing with red and blue lights. They drew their weapons, but before they could raise them, the front doors of the restaurant blew open with a deafening CRASH.
"FEDERAL AGENTS! DROP YOUR WEAPONS! ON THE GROUND NOW!"
A dozen heavily armored FBI tactical officers poured into the dining room, laser sights sweeping the space. The Lucchesi guards threw their guns onto the floor, raising their hands in surrender.
Hector sat paralyzed in his chair, staring at Adrien as federal agents rushed forward, pulling his arms behind his back and snapping heavy steel handcuffs onto his wrists.
"You ruined me..." Hector choked out, his voice trembling with pathetic rage as he was yanked to his feet. "You ruined everything!"
Adrien stood up smoothly, buttoning his charcoal jacket. He looked down at the man who had ordered his wife's death, his dark eyes showing no hatred—only absolute, final victory.
"You ruined yourself the moment you touched my family," Adrien said.
As the agents dragged Hector away into the rainy night, Adrien turned to Elena. She was sitting quietly at the table, her hands resting in her lap, taking a slow breath as the adrenaline began to fade.
Adrien walked over to her, extending his hand.
"Are you okay?" he asked softly.
May you like
Elena looked up at him, her dark eyes shining in the ambient light of the restaurant. She reached out, taking his hand.
"I'm better than okay, Adrien," she smiled gently. "Let's go home to our kids."
